Oelstand (Check Oil) light is on!!!
My oelstand or check oil light came on today when I cranked up my 87 944S. It stayed on the whole trip (about 15km). When I got home I turned it off and back on, but the light is still on. I checked the oil, and it seems to be fine. Any suggestions?

sounds like maybe your oil sending unit is having issues. Gauge should be around 4-5 when you start off and drop slightly when the engine is all warmed up, esp. at an idle. If it stays pegged then i would say your sending unit is f-d up. That also controls the light.

its on the passenger side sticking off the engine w/ two wires on it...pretty easy, some oil will come out- alittle not too much- just two wires and spin the thing off/on and reconnect. Its on the oil cooler housing just over the front of the control arm. I need one too, i broke the damn stud off where the wire connects, DONT OVERTIGHTEN the nuts, just snug, ask me how i know.

its not that expensive, about 60 USD, but if your oil light went on, thats not your only problem. You may have low oil pressure. Firs tthing to do is replace the sending unit (Or check the wiring on it first, sometimes they get loose, or someone puts the wires on backwards) and then see what the gauge reads your pressure to be. Its its low, post back.

If oil pressure drops to ~3 on idle when warm, sender is probably just fine. You're talking about the oil level light, right? Not the light on the oil pressure gauge? Level sensor is not related to the oil pressure sender. For reference, my oil level light comes on when the level on the dipstick is about 1/4 of the way from the lower line to the upper line.

the ! light comes on when oil pressure is too low as well. This would happen if the sending unit was malfunctioning causing the gauge to tach out and the light to come on.
