Possibly the best crazy idea I have ever had!
So. I was sitting here counting the mega bucks I dont have after some serious scotches and voila, lightbulb time!
If and when I start making regular business trips to the states, and it will happen boys and girls, is it worthwhile for me to buy an S2 or a Turbo and keep it in either LA, Long Beach or San Diego (yes, pick yourselves out guys!) to use whilst I am over?
Is this legal, me being an 'alien' and all!
If I own it for two years I could ship it home with no import duties.
Bear in mind that a 951 or S2 sells for $AUD20-30k here
See here
What you guys think?
BTW: See the very rare '82 944 on the same page! Methinks maybe build date in the factory.

Go for it. I'm sure we could work something out for a couple of the guys out here (me included) to keep it up, drive it occasionally, etc. If you need a hand with anything (looking, doing some maintenance, etc.) just let me know - I'd love to help out.
I thought you said LHD cars weren't legal in your provence though?

Jeff
Mate, if I can swing an S2 or 951 cheap [comparitively] then I could afford to get it converted and still make a profit if necessary!
Not that I would sell of course.

Jeff, I thought you were an ed-u-ma-cated man!
We is as big as yuz! with only 7 states! And a lot less peoples!
Google 'qld' check the size and compare with say, Texas, Alaska, California etc.
Just joshing, but you guys really have no idea of distances involved here and different regs between states.
That's why I luvs yuz all, so gullible!

Provence, state, territory, whatever. . . Geez. It's not like Australia and Canada are REALLY any different anyway, are they? Other than one's got moose and one's got kangaroos. . .
J/K. Does this mean I get points off my immigration exam if I ever want to move there? Guess I have to study up. . . I do know that platypuses are mammals though. And the story of the Sidney Opera House construction. . .
Guess this is just proof I need a vacation and need to get out more. . .

why not buy 2 then...
Beeg,
At those prices you could buy two, ship one back and sell it immediately. That should more than cover the cost of both vehicles (giving you one car for free)...or keep both and then only sell the "extra" car when your time is done here in the states.

why not keep the car in norhtern california, and then fly into Sacramento international airport (cheaper than LAX), then drive the car from norcal to socal (using some scenic mountain routes, of course!), and do business there.
i can think of a very large mexican with a garage that you can use.........

I believe that LHD is legal here if the car is not a daily driver but rather a 'classic' or 'collectible'. There are a lot of LHD's around that dont get driven every day. I'll have to check it out.
BTW: When do you come home? Bringing the car?
Juan
How did I not forsee that there would be garage space owned by a large mexican available?
