Default Need new headlights - H4, or standard sealed beam?

My handy multi meter has determined that my headlight switch and turn signal / headlight stalk work fine - must be my bulbs burned out.

I have the sealed Sylvania beams in there now. Is "upgrading" to the H4 style hard to do? How is it done? Or, should I just spend a mere $20 and get the Sylvanias at Pep Boys?

Thanks.

The H4 goes in just like a sealed beam, the only difference is that you put a bulb into the back of the H4.

With the H4 you also have a wider choice of wattage in the bulbs.

If you get GOOD lenses the difference is night and day.

I got mine from Iceshark and even before I installed the wire harness just the H4s made a huge difference.

Worth $110 vs. $20?

And, if I want the H4's, does Pep Boys sell them, or do I have to order from Pellican, etc?

I would not think twice after having the H4s.

H4's are readily available anywhere.

Go with the H4 type lesnes, forget about sealed beams. I would by the Valeo Cibie e-code lenses. They really do make a huge difference.

In fact, I like them so much that I have an extra pair in my closet. Probably the last ones that Dan shipped.

Can I get the "Valeo"s anywhere? I'd rather not spend the shipping and the waiting time if I can walk into the local auto store and get decent H4 lenses.

This is the only source of Cibie e-Codes (stuff Iceshark used) in the US that I know of: http://www.talbotco.com.

I got the hella kit offered on performanceproducts.com a long time ago, not quite as good as the cibe e code but night and day difference between sealed beam. Also when u get bulbs dont go above the stock wattage 60-55 watt as the wiring cant handle more without the chance of it burning up.Hella kit

If you were actually pulled over and given a ticket because your headlights were not DOT legal, i would be more amused than angry. The reason the Cibies are so good is due to the beam cutoff they have, they do not blind oncoming traffic however offer great light output.

The best upgrade you can make is new wiring for the headlamps. You'll go from deadlamps to headlamps. You can do it for about $25 if you enjoy working with electricity.
