The best upgrade you can make is new wiring for the headlamps. You'll go from deadlamps to headlamps. You can do it for about $25 if you enjoy working with electricity.
Exactly, i just upgraded my wiring by doing my best attempt at replicating Icesharks kit and the light output is amazing. He truly was the master at lighting. Also i was pulled over because my lights were too bright, this was right after i upgraded the wiring with 80-100watt bulbs but just got a warning. I've sense put in silverstar 55-60 which are very nice.

Hella H4's and PIAA's. It throws so much more light, it's not even comparable to the OE lights.

If I'm NOT comfortable working with electricity, old wiring, etc...will installing H4 lights in the stock 60-55 power be an improvement, with my existing stock wiring?

And, if I want the H4's, does Pep Boys sell them, or do I have to order from Pellican, etc?
didnt read responses below this.

DEFINITE YES!!!

I had H4s in my RX7s in the early 80s. took the car to the berkshires via unlit rt 7 many times. had plenty of light, and didnt have/need fog or driving lights.

i used the bulbs they came with.

when i traded in my 83 rx7 for the 85 i swapped the headlights in the dealers lot as i picked up the car.

i had them in my red S2 and they lit the taconic pretty nicely.

i highly recommend them.

make sure you get the motorcycle only headlights non sealed beams. the others dont have a removable filament. they are not dot legal, but the headlights retract so if you get pulled over turn your lights off. like the trooper is going to look at your beams.

yes the beam pattern will be much crisper. i had standard halogen bulbs and my bulb pattern seemed to be a "blob". if u look at the 2nd pic i posted, u can see how the top right of the beam has a "<" to it. lets u see road signs on the right hand side.

but in the end its up to preference

____< is the beam. the stuff on the side like signs are lit like candles. flip on the brights and the overhead signs jump out at you. amazing. i would have put them in the gray S2, but i never drive it.

nope. the housing doesnt affect the wiring. and the H4 bulbs draw the same wattage (12V) and use 55/65 watts. thats the standard rating. anything higher...then u probably have to upgrade the wiring

First one is straight on low beam, second low beam, third high beam. I basically fallowed the schematic of Icesharks lighting kit. 8 gage wire to a pair of Hella relays that then feed into new light sockets via 10 gage wire, you then use the old connector on the driver side as the signal for the relays. One relay for high beams one for low beams. Then I ran a secondary ground using 8 gage from the alternator mount to the grounding bolt location on the drivers side. I had previously upgraded the lenses to the hella kits i posted earlyer and the bulbs i have now are (pictured) sylvania silverstar 60-55 the hella 80-100 bulbs i used to have in it were rediculously bright although not quite as "crisp" as these silverstars. I forgot to mention the 8 gage wire that feeds the relays positive voltige comes right off the antenator, this is very nice because it praticly eliminates voltige drop when you turn the lights on.
