Yoko AS 430???
No, not for the 968 - for my daughter's Jetta. I am comparing 225/45/17s to fit her car and several local shops have this tire in stock at a good price. The tread pattern is decent - high performance all season - and the price is good.
The problem? I cannot find any reviews or mention of this tire on the internet - from either Yokohama's website or Tire Rack or anywhere. Of course the shops assure me its a great tire! I am just looking for a little more info before I plunk down my $500. I am assuming it is made for one or more of the chain stores by Yoko.
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience with the AS 430?
As a side note - I called Tire Rack, having dealt with them many times in the past. I was shocked when the customer service rep was downright rude when I asked him if he knew anything about this tire. He got snippy with me in the first sentence! I mean how hard is it to say, "I'm not familiar with that tire but I am sure that we have a tire that will meet your needs," - which would have been fine. If he didn't know, he didn't know. No problem.
My previous experience with them has always been helpful and knowledgeable. That is why I often buy from them (5 cars) - and I mentioned in my first sentence that I was a multiple repeat customer. That ended today.

They AS430 is a private label tire for specific retailers. You can get any information you want by calling Yoko direct, let me know if you need the number. I am 99.9% sure it is an Avid H4s/V4s so if you are looking for reviews you should look at those reviews.

Yokohama's are top rate tires. I would call Tire Rack back and complain. I'm sure they will be willing to keep you as a customer. I naver used that specific tire before, but the V4 was nice.

RPM, if you are interested in trying the BS Potenza G009, let me know, I can make you a very good deal on them.

I have the G009 on my 325. Very good tire. Pretty quiet. Excellent in the rain. Snow is mediocre at best. I dont think 325s are very good in the snow overall though so you can only overcome so much. If my AWD was working Id be in much better shape.
Didnt this tire replace the RE750 or something.

RE750 replaced the RE730. The G009 is best in class in snow traction. Like I have said dozens of times, only a snow tire is worth a crap in the snow, everything else is a compromise.

Well for the record i have the V4S on my car right now, 205/55/16 and 225/50/16. They are pretty good actually and have held up well to about four autocrosses before i picked up a spare set of wheels. The more they wear down, they get very squirrily in the rain...and i would really recommend you not use them in snow. I spun the tires in slush with my amazing 150hp in 3rd gear going up a onramp giving moderate power.
Other than that, dry traction is very good and wet traction is as good as one can expect from a high performance all season. I am actually considering buying them again when i wear down this set, either that or the Pirelli P-Zero M+S. My buddy has those and says they are not absolutley terrible in light snow.
