Default Preventing Dash Cracks

The Tenacious G PCar - an 86 NA has a great looking dash. There is a spot near one of the vents where the tiniest hairline crack is beginning to form - less than a sixteenth of an inch I'd say. Any thoughts on preventing this from spreading. I've heard that some folks apply a little epoxy glue to the area.

I've heard some guys take a tooth pick and put some superglue on the crack. Then a few posts later somebody replied that it would make it worse in the long run.

I added some leather care solution to the dash, made it softer (just a bit).

Then i finished it off using Armor All interior trim conditioner/cleaner

Never had a problem, even with the summer heats here,

People just talk....

I have been using that stuff for 8 years on that dash, being exposed to 120+F summers and extremely high UV index as well.

What cracks the dash is age + no treatment + Direct sun light

Whatever you do, you should ALWAYS use a sun shade

Thanks, guys - GOBOGIE, you have hit the nail on the head - is there any substance or process that can arrest an existing crack's development - this one is almost imperceptible and I don't want it to become perceptible. I've also heard about drilling a small hole at the end, but in this case, the hole would be bigger than the crack!

i like armor all but it does have its drawbacks. It tends to actually draw the moister out and leave an oily residue on the top that attracts dust. An upolsterer friend of mine told me to just use a damp cloth to clean things like that, and if anything use an oil free conditioner to treat it. I have this Zymol stuff that works pretty good, even though i have a dash cap so it doesnt really matter. This is one time im glad to have tinted windows for sure

303 Protectant or Vinylex. Park car in garage, never drive it. Works for me! 0 cracks
