Question "Help" 4 The 951 Experts

Car:
951 1987 type 352 (NON-S)

Symptoms:
- Headlights do not rise nor does the orange light on the switch turn on when switched on
- Driver side and passanger side window switch do not work
- Car will heat to between 2nd and 3rd white bar prior to the fan cooling

Probable reasons for symptoms:
- After I washed the car in an automatic car wash, the heating problem started.
A) I bleed and filled the resivor some change but not much

Drove the car December 12, 2005 did not operate the windows nor the lights

Tonight December 17, 2005
I started the car tonight the lights did not work nor did the windows. Went through the fuses, no problems, then the relays. I think the relays worked too. (limted 951 experince)
My Solution:
I am going to install a new D.M.E. relay!

What do you think I should do?

Possibly the relay on the headlight lift motor.

Cooling fan switch on the driver's side of the radiator. I had no low speed fans, only high and would come on a 2/3-3/4 to hot according to the guage. Also, possibly the fan relay$$, for 15 bucks vs 100, I'd start with the fan switch.

The windows may be a relay problem if the fuse is good.

DME controls everything, but only as far as the engine. Buy a spare and keep it in the relay box. It will let you know when you need it at the worst possible time.

good luck!

Yea, certain buttons when pressed make the temperature arm fluctuate.

The Ignition I guess work the key around a bit and see what it does. I changed the odometer gear prior to all of this. The odometer reset does not work at all but the odometer does.

The reset button probably dropped down from where it goes when you had it apart. The temp guage fluctuation is something I've noticed before. I'd say a good cleaning of the grounds should help(not in my case) but my ignition switch is bad, I swapped it with one that is worse, lol. I'll see what helps soon.

Ignition switch, 2 flat blade screws that are a beeotch. you can get to them from under the dash without pulling anything else. Use a stubby flat blade screwdriver. I don't know that it will fix everything.

Well, after I remembered that not unlike a chick that a **** turns on the headlights. Only this **** is horizontal to where you insert the key. The headlights worked!
YEA!

But

The windows switches still do not work. I checked the box under the hood and low and behold, G7 relay is missing. There is a nice square dust spot where is should be but other than that is gone. Yes, it made it out from under the hood past two 5200 series locks and is now gone. I am for sure that www.Vertexauto.com will have a spear to plug in.

Chicks and cars I do not know which one drives me crazier? I mean the fuse is good, but where the Relay should plug in there is a dust spot and no relay!

Hahaha, it heard you talking about the headlight switch, and decided to make a break for it

When you were talking about the orange light, I guess you meant the fog light switch?...
It will only work with at least the park lights on.
Also, if you pull on the turn signal stalk with the headlights off, it will light up the fog lights. IIRC it's a green light on the switch, not orange.

Fixed!

After the light came up this morning, I reexamined my handy work last night. I determined that in my stupor about the lights that I unplugged G7 and pluged back in where G8 goes. Well, in US 951 G8 is not even necessary. Pluged in the relay back where it belongs in G7 and guess what the window switches work.

I broke both of my rules last night and showed my A$$ on reenlist.
- No drinking prior to or while working on the Porsche
No working on the Porsche when I am angry.

I find when I am getting angry when working on the porsche, that drinking is best, because then I just want to go inside and watch T.V., and leave the car alone. Works like a charm, and cheers me up every time

Good to hear it's all working now.

"I broke both of my rules last night and showed..."

I understand about the rules... say somthing smart and nobody even notices, say something dumb and watch the thread live for months...

Ah but what the heck, dad used to say, "if you're not making mistakes, you're just not doing anything....";]
