Default Make your own shift boot?

Anyone make their own shift boot? I don't feel like shelling out the $40 for an actual Porsche shift boot for a track car, but I have to change out the **** because I can't stand touching something that has had another dude's sweaty mitt on it for so many miles. The steering wheel is going too

Anyhow, I boutght a new **** for $20 and figure I could get a pieces of leather or vinyl from the material store and just do this. Anyone done it or have any suggestions?

Shouldn't be to bad a process.

Take the old shift boot off and use it as a patten to make a new one of whatever material you want. Perhaps swede? Naa, not on a track car. Forget that.

I know someone on here made one a few years ago from a ladies leather boot they purchased at Goodwill--he had a nice write-up and the boot looked great too. The post was probably 2 years ago.

Just go buy a cheapo import boot from any autozone etc....

Coincidentally I have had some really awefull looking steering wheel and shifters and used hot water and a rag and they came out like new.
