Don't do it. It'll be more trouble than it's worth. The cat in your sig looks like he'll murder you if you do a half-assed job. I know it sucks pulling off the crossmember, but do it right.

how so? I'm just adding a bead of silicone. I would rather attempt alternatives to correct it before I start ripping sh*t apart again....believe me I DO NOT WANT TO DROP A CROSS MEMBER FOR A VERY LONG TIME

Geoff- Cool sig pic! PS that damn tree outta there and get it framed. I guess I'll have to be part of the "In" crowd and get one too.

Andy, it will not seal it. It'll make a mess, and you do NOT want to get that stuff in your oil in any way, shape or form. I know, beleive me, I know after doing it 3 times in a week, that removing the crossmember sucks big hairy donkey *****... but it's gotta be done to do it right.

Until you seal the primary seating surface, you are chasing your tail. Especially if you want to run synth.
Did I mention, that I have the LR 3pce Xmember installed... , thanks again Geoff

Geoff I'm not talking about shoving the whole tube in the crankcase and going Julio with the gasket maker (inside joke). I am merely going to loosen the bolts in that area and take a razor blade and break about an inch of yamabond loose in each direction in order to try to push the gasket back in. Then, I am going to apply the RTV on the outside edge of the gasket, tucking just a little bit of it in. Then, I'm going to tighten it down. I will post my results. In this state I would rather take my chances than take that crossmember off again.

Really, there's no harm in trying to seal it up with RTV. The critical thing will be to clean off all traces of oil or the RTV won't stick. I use lacquer thinner. I was successful in stopping the rear balance shaft plugs from leaking with RTV. And that was several years ago.
