Yeah, danno's surefire way to do the oil pan gasket includes sealer all the way around teh entire gasket. The bulging is the problem.

andy, i asked before but maybe you didnt see it.. do you havea ny pictures of teh bulging areas, before installation, or since?

I didn't get back to you on that Devon, sorry. I will take pictures tonight. There are 2 areas, exactly on opposite sides of the motor. The spot leaking is just above the drain plug. That is also the same side that bulges out the most. The upper side most likely will not leak due to the fact that the oil pan is angled with the way the engine sits in the car.

As far as the RTV surface sterilization goes. I have A LOT of BRAKE CLEANER...and a VERY TWITCHY finger Would a can of CRC take that grease right off there?

I took a picture of the oil pan gasket bulge last night, but forgot to upload it. Sorry guys. The side REALLY looks puffed out, almost as if there is no gasket at all in the area it squeezed out of. Boy I hope this RTV idea works. I'd hate to take a pan gasket off that is covered in Yamabond, scrape away all day, and only pray that the other one seals right. I will take pictures of the job so in case it works, there is a thread on here that covers the topic on how to fix any oil pan gasket leaks after a fresh replacement.

UPDATE: Crossmember has to come off again. Tucking the gasket back in had failed and leaked immediately after shutoff.

Looks like I'll be out 50 bucks again.

Sorry to hear of the leakage problem. Had the same problem with my pan gasket and tried the my-swiss retainers. Works great! Here is the link:

If you are referring to $50 for another pan gasket, I have one I didn't use from a block gasket set I bought last summer. I was going to put it on eBay at some point. $25 plus shipping? let me know.

Stig...

I didn't go through the whole thread. Did you ID this thing stuck to the oil sump screen?

It looks similar to what I pulled out of my last night. Can you tell me more about it?
