Stig's Official Engine Rebuild Thread

Stigmeister, what did you use to get your block so clean? I want MINE to look like that too. I'll soon be ready for the assembly process myself.

Update: New pics.
The car has touched down. All I need to do is reconnect the ISV and intake manifold, along with any external engine bay components. Let's not forget the 951 brakes. The brake upgrade has been installed in the front no problem. I still need to bolt the rears up and bleed the system. The car WILL be running this weekend.

Guys I just took a peek in the garage at the cat, but noticed after the rebuild and 951 spindles that the car sits lower. Have I gone crackers or does 2 degrees negative camber and 951 spindles make a car sit lower?

UPDATE:
Good News!!!! The car is running! The motor is VERY TIGHT and really sings. Sounds like a brand new car!
Now the bad news, the bulge that happened when torquing the oil pan gasket is now seeping oil....about 1 drop per every 5 seconds after shut off. The car has lost a quart of oil.
I'm not taking that cross member off again; can I apply some RTV silicone to to that area of the pan gasket and run a bead all the way across to ensure a proper seal? I am going to drain the oil and ensure the surfaces are grease free by shooting some brake parts cleaner on it.

True... BUT she's running. Dude, after the car being done for so long, the thrill of starting her up for the first time is incredible. and this was your first rebuild. don't beat yourself up. after my first rebuild, she had to go to the Porsche dealer to fix one of my f*ckups... a leaky pan gasket is nowhere near as bad as my $500+ repair... I'll talk to you on AIM about that one...

Hey Andy, congrats on the success!
The oil pan gasket is one those things I hear lots of grief about. I'm really not sure how "save-able" your situation is, those with experience on trying fixes will be able to help more. However, one thought I would consider would be to try and fish in some K-Swiss pan gasket retainers in combination with your cleaning and re-sealing efforts. The whole purpose to those K-Swiss retainers is to keep the the gasket from bulging in the first place.
Just a thought.
