If I pull the engine out, it will be out the top.

These make the job pretty easy

well from all the things that have been discussed, it just sounds like its harder. out the bottom you basically unbolt stuff and it falls out. cant beat that

I'm doing it from the top because I'm hard like that.

i did alot of research before pulling the engine out.people said top and people said bottom.starting a poll isnt a bad idea.from experience,i pulled the motor out the bottom.my first ever engine pull too.suspension comes out real easy,an hour and a half TOPS!!then lift the car 22 inces, drop the cross member, unbolt motor mounts, torque tube, pull forward to dis-engauge and lower it onto a creeper and roll it out the side of fender.btw, the number one tool to have when going out the bottom is a cheater pipe.it makes things ALOT easier.

Andy,

The problem with a poll, is most of us (myself included), have only pulled the engine in tbhe 944 one way, so it is hard to give a really valid comparitive opinion. For example, I think dropping the engine was very easy. However, I can't really say for sure if I would have found it more difficult out the top.

However, Zero10 (see post 129) has done it both ways and I would be inclined to pay particular attention to that.

At the end of the day, you will get it out either which way.

Ladies and Gentlemen...

I have my block back and the cylinders are perfectly honed and the cleaned. This motor looks BRAND NEW like it stepped off the assembly line at Neckarsulm!

I will shoot some pictures tomorrow and post them ASAP!

Oh and BTW, I got my car 20" off the ground and will be taking my motor out from underneath....with no filler tube and no intake manifold in the way!

You can sneak it through the side if the front suspension is off. Lets you have the car around 15" off the ground instead of 20". If you really want to know how fun it is to go out the top, get a prybar, and scrape the heck out of your frame rails with it, then it will at least look the same.

However, Zero10 (see post 129) has done it both ways and I would be inclined to pay particular attention to that.
Hahaha, this quote cracked me up. Maybe because it's almost 6AM and I am still sleepless, maybe just because he said both ways... I dunno

maybe i missed somehting somewhere in the thread but i noticed youve already got the crank bolt in but you left off the power steering pulley, yet you still have a power rack. are you planning on just running the power rack as a manual? thats what i decided to do and ive got the arm mustles to show it

no it's still going to be power. I'm just cleaning it up while it's out.

isn't rebuilding engines fun? that clean block looks so sexy on the engine stand!

i was going to suggest removing all those hoses and lines but i see you got the engine shoehorned in there. good luck getting it going. that first oil leak will be a bummer, but you'll get it all figured out.

The pics show the engine in, out, then back in, then on a stand...
Perhaps he means the oil leak pictured after the series of the engine being out of the car?

Anyhoo, looking good. I forgot alll about this thread. Isn't it nice to tension the belts with the engine out of the car?

Hey Stig! You're really close to have it all done. Almost there! Keep the faith, you'll git her done. I'm sure of it.

Just to clear up a little confusion... the "new" engine isn't completely assembled yet, but should be back in the car by the end of the weekend, right Andy?? The bare shortblock is the new one.
