Thats not crazy but, Ask them at what RPM. It has to be a very high RPM motor!

I think I saw a catalog from them 10+ years ago, where they were offering 4 stages of rebuilt 944 engines.

It won't be till later in the afternoon when I can get there. I will ask about dyno sheets. I did forget that they would use 13:1 or 14:1 Pistons.

if its making 334, that means that countrary to popular beleif, the 944 NA motor DOES respond to an all motor build quite well. Thats a great number. Thats not that much work, its a pretty normal engine build. You can probably build that yourself for maybe 5K or less. Of course, you need I/H/E, intake manifold, TB and suuch would help as well.
If i had the cash burning a hole in my pocket, I would be pretty tempted to build one.

If this is PAECO they are the real deal. Very good shop with good service. A little pricey, but I've noticed anything associated with Porsche is.

uh, Thats alot of work for most people here. After building a couple motors, I learned, that stuff adds up quick.
Also, "just building a header and intake", is expensive! I know, I'm doing that as we speak. $5k goes fast! Building one is one thing, building one that works is another. Lots of R&D to get results... Ask Skunk.

IIRC, the Stage 4 was not recommended for the street. The Stage 3 was usable for the street - I forget the performance numbers, though.

I'm not saying 334 is impossible for the 8v 944 engine. But, I was going by the list.

No mention of custom header.
No mention of different valves.
No mention of custom intake manifold.

I've long believed a 8v 944 engine is capable of really good or great output. What was listed just didn't ring true to me. Perhaps the list is incomplete.

While a bigger CR would be necessary, I don't think 3 points will get you more than 20 hp MAX by itself and probably less than that.

If it makes those kinds of numbers it probably idles at 3k+ rpm and probably doesn't make any real power until 6500+ rpm.

Eyal - you and what research facility/machine shop?

There is no point to such a high powered, low displacement, normally aspirated engine. The torque curve will be WORSE than that of a turbocharged engine due to the aggressive camshaft and incredibly high rpm needed to achieve such high hp output. It will obviously not be streetable either.

In the end, there will be nothing more than bragging rights - afterall, your buddy in a modified 951 won't do any worse on the track, be able to drive the car home, and buy his wife a nice present with the countless thousands that he saved.

Finally, with custom components, what do you do when something breaks? Be a slave to a private manufacturer who will build you a one-off piece for the measly cost of your first born?

If these figures are for real then its got to be a track only kind of engine. I think Geo's off the cough estimates [If it makes those kinds of numbers it probably idles at 3k+ rpm and probably doesn't make any real power until 6500+ rpm.] sound about right and you are probably looking at max power at around 9k rpm.

133 bhp per litre on an N/A engine is possible in a street car but only just and its only really realistic on an engine with variable valve timing like Honda's Vtec system, were you effectively have two different cam timings for low rpm and High rpm.
