Default Moving Steering Wheel Stalls Car

While checking over my S2 looking for issues that needed to be fixed, I observed that the power steering is sluggish, and not as smooth as I expected when turning the wheel. I get my gimp car off the highway and back home, and while I'm sitting, I notice when I turn the steering wheel RPMs drop from a steady 950 idle to around 600 and feels like its going to stall when I move the wheel. Guess its time to just part out the whole car PS rack is BRAND new, is my pump going?

Does the car almost die when you turn on the A/C?

Idle stabilizer valve...under the intake. It's about $130 IIRC.

With the A/C on its fine. It just baffles me, so no chance its the ps pump? That could explain the 2 problems.

cut the belt, see if the problem persists. or take the belt off. i like cutting, but that's cuz i'm crazy. i'd say check the pump fluid level, but it'd be making a ticking noise if it was empty.....or so i believe.

I don't know about the S2. But on the S they have a high pressure switch on the ps pump. It was supposed to raise the idle while turning. They have a recall on this. This switch shorts out. Look on the bottom of the ps pump and see if there is an electrical connection plugged in. If it is unplug it.

My S was doing the same thing when that switch went out. Caused a nice electrical fire. Had to remove the entire wire harness and repair. Not a fun job.

I'll check into the switch issue, but I'm almost 100% sure the issue will disappear once I cut that ps pump belt. Without the belt theres no reason the engine would be slowing down, steering system is almost completely independent (and no longer powre steering) without that belt. Thanks for the responses so far.

Thought I'd give everyone an update on this. Numerous mechanics have told me this is quite normal for the car's idle to dip down. There previously was a switch on the steering rack to sense an increase in pressure and up the cars idle to compensate, but the switch was recalled as it had the convenient tendency to set your car on fire. Thats all. I'd be interested to know if anyone has this switch on their rack though.
