Those last two links look like your best bet- IMSA monthly magazines from your desired years. Lots of issues available.

They mention "FFEC," which is Firestone Firehawk Endurance Championship.

I found a 1986 yearbook from a vendor at Mid Ohio a couple of years ago, he had a lot of old race programs and books. I don't know if he goes to other tracks or if he's just at Mid Ohio.

I'm mostly putting decals on my car as if it were a European Turbo Cup car (with TC roundels, Blaupunkt and Dunlop, etc.), but with a couple things to recognize its US roots.

First, Koni instead of Bilstein stickers, since the US cars came with Konis.

And second, since I bought my car from Porsche Motorsport, which was then headquartered at Holbert in Pennsylvania, I've been searching for a logo for them.

Finally found (on Rennlist!) a scan of a Holbert Racing catalog:

Using that as a guide, I recreated the logo (below) and will be adding Holbert Racing decals to the car.

Speaking of Koni - Paul, are your front struts yellow?

My rears are orange. Hard to tell if they have been refinished or if they were originally orange. My fronts have been rebuilt and were freshly painted yellow. But wondering if they would have originally been orange.

But I recall seeing most of the vintage correct konis were yellow front struts and gold zinc dichromate finished rear coil overs.

Uhh, I don't remember! I'll be getting the car out this week to take to a huge indoor car show at the Porsche dealer (Porsche of the Village, in Cincinnati), so I'll let you know.

Unbelievable! Your car looks fantastic. Who did your decals?

I have an 1987S Escort car. It comes back from having an engine refresh next week. I need to figure out what to do with it for decals, as raced in the Escort series or something new. Right now it just has numbers on it which are as original, but I am not a huge fan. Please see the three pictures, when it was raced in 1987, 1988 and now and let me know if you have any suggestions.

Well, there are a million things you could do, and really, whatever you like, is what you should do.

But I can tell you what I did, and why.

I think if one has a race car with significant history, you should probably make it look exactly like it did when it was raced.

But for a car that is not a famous race car, or one like my car that was never raced, I think you can change the design. My car is a Turbo Cup car, and after looking at photos of the Turbo Cup cars raced in the US SCCA Escort series, and then looking at the cars raced in the German Turbo Cup series, I decided that I like the appearance of the European ones better.

I also saw a couple of cars on the great Asarus Turbo Cup site that made me realize I wanted to try this.

The thing about many old race cars, particularly SCCA ones, is that no one "designed" the graphics on the car. Look up at the SCCA car several posts ago- they just put as many decals on as they could, wherever they would fit.

I wanted to design my car's graphics as if I was back in 1987 running in the Turbo Cup series. So I looked, and clearly Blaupunkt, Dunlop, Shell, Bosch, and Recaro should be on the car.

The cars also had Bilstein stickers, but since the US cars used Konis, I decided to use that instead. (I've never run Dunlop tires, but just didn't think Hoosier or Kumho stickers would be right!)

I googled around and found vector logo files for those logos. (Files have .eps or .ai suffixes.)

Then I took photos of my car, and using InDesign, I experimented with size and location of the logos. (Any graphic designer friend could do this for you easily if you provide photos and logos).

I went on ebay and some other sites and bought several multi-color decals, not sure which I would use.

I ended up using only the Shell ones.

When I designed the layout in InDesign, I scaled the car to a certain size, so I could then know how big the decals should be.

After I figured out what vinyl decals I wanted made, I collected all the logo files, decided what size each should be and how many to make of each (I made spares), and went to a local sign place. Fastsigns could do it I'm sure, but there's a small local place I've used before, so I went there.

Most of mine were black, but I also need Recaro in white, and the Blaupunkt dot in blue.

I also wanted a white window strip since the Euro cars had one for the Blaupunkt logo.

I should have just bought this from the sign shop (it's just a chunk of the uncut vinyl), but bought it from these guys, who shipped very fast.

I cut it to about 6" wide. It was one of the most time-consuming parts to apply.
