Default want deep loud muffler sound.

I heard a scion XA the other day and it sounded so good, low deep and not raspy.
So I only drive in town, I want the involment in driving and want a great sound,
I don't want that ricer sound and I don't want a raspy sound,
just a deep low loud rumble sound. Any suggestions?
My car is a 85.5 NA. And yes I did a search, nothing on low and loud tho.

Thanks Mojo

flowmaster is pretty deep, and loud enough to be heard, yet not be annoyed too much

flowmaster or dyna max. I think mine is a flowmaster-steel welded heavy duty looking thing- sounds great everyone always asks about it.

Flowmaster or Flo-Pro (I have this one), nice burble on decel, quiet at cruise, and authoratative on boost...can't vouch for the NA sound though but and they are cheap if you hate it!

If your area does not require emissions testing, pull the CAT and install a test pipe. Even with stock mufflers the exhasut note is deeper, not raspy, and is "quiet" at speed.

i think the O2 sensor is before the cat, unless there is two, i was under my car yesterday because my oil pan is starting to leak just a smidgen, and there is at least 1 in front of the cat

The O2 sensor is before the Cat. Pulling it would possibly cause problems with your car passing emissions. However i have heard of people passing the test without them on, however if they do a visual check and see you have a test pipe in place, that could cause some problems.

For a good deep, raspy exhaust sound...

...get a Mustang GT.

Seriously, there's nothing like good ole 'Merican Iron when it comes to exhaust notes!

Of course, a Ferrari 308 GTS at full gallop sounds incredible too!

That said, I know of a few 993's that have a decent aftermarket exhaust setup. Sounds nice.

I just don't think you can get that deep an exhaust note out of a 4-cyl car.

well they can sound deep enough for people that dont know any better guess that there is all different kinds of motors except for a 4-cyl. a co-workers boyfriend asked if it had a 350 in it, LOL...

No. The O2 sensor is upstream of the CAT, and the Bursch test pipe I had included the "bung" for the sensor.

FWIW, my '84 with 143K, and my '87 with 250K passed NC emissions testing with flying colors with a test pipe installed because the inspector did not do a visual inspection.

Like I said in an earlier post, IF your state/locality DOES NOT require emissions testing, you can replace the CAT with a test pipe and get a nice deep exhaust note.

You can buy one, or just have one made at a muffler shop. Just make sure you tell them you are only using the car for 'track' useage. Alternativley you can look at SFR which make some very nice exhaust setups. I have there cat-back and its very well made.

You could always go The Stig's route... he's got a 2.5 inch pipe, with a trumpet exhaust... no mufflers... it's not THAT loud... it's only 103 dB at 50 feet...
