Looks good. Just curious, how are you polishing the lip?

sandpaper... starting with a lowish grit, ending at 2000, then hitting it with metal polish

Ooo I like that color in the center. That's making me reconsider just redoing mine in the regular silver.

Looks good. What size wheels and tires are you running?

Looks great Geoff. What kind of paint and what color did you use for the center part? I am currently painting the wheels on my old benz and painting the entire car. I'm thinking of polishing my outer rims and painting the rest bright silver.

Be sure to post some more pics when you get finished.

Hokay, the wheel centers I used Duplicolor "storm grey". the wheels aref 15x7 944 Phone Dials, late offset. I know they work, because they've been on the car for a while now... I'm currently running the 15x6 wheels for the winter while i refinish these...

Thanks Geoff. I will be needing tires and I wouldn't mind getting something a little wider than the stock 6 inchers.

Sold! I'm doin' the fuchs now; those just made me a believer. There will be no more faded fuchs on my car!

BTW did you have to apply any sort of stripper to them prior to starting the new work, or did you just sand and go over it?

Can you descbribe the process of stripping the wheel? I just bought a set (well actually 3 phone dials...UPS seems to have lost one). Yes, UPS lost a wheel with a mounted tire, 39.5 pounds...and they lost it. Enough ranting,

I am looking to repaint these wheels white, but considered doing a polished lip with gunmetal center, very similar ot what you are doing. What is involved with stripping the wheel? Honestly i was just going to paint over the original finish. I dont mind if its not 100% looking as these wheels are getting summer tires on them and will be mostly used for autocross useage.

For the stripping, put aircraft remover on, wait 5 minutes, scrape. WEAR THICK RUBBER GLOVES!!! that **** burns instantly on contact with skin, ask me how I know... and it goes thru the flimsy rubber gloves....

for my next ones, I'm just gonna strip the face...I did the whole wheel and it took forever.... small sections...I learned that the face would be a hell of a lot easier... so... I'm just doing the face for the next 3... that wheel isn't done yet either.... I'm almost done hand painting the center caps...then I clear them... Pics to come...

It doesn't pit the aluminum or react with it at all, does it? Sounds like pretty reactive stuff. . .
