Default 2nd gear top speed? help me out, for my court case

well, i got ticketed for participating in a speed contest on may 29th. no flames please, just help, as the judge i encountered today was pretty heavy.

for being 20 miles over the speed limit and not having insurance, they were trying to give me 30 days (first offense)

mind you, i cant do this time as i am a full time student...

the cop wrote that i admitted guilt (which i did not) and i am of course going to fight it. he also said that he watched us shift from first, 2nd, and then 3rd and clocked me at mere 65mph (speed limit was 45).

my speedometer is non functional atm, and i dont want to troubleshoot it as i have heavier things to deal with (such as my homework ;[..) and would like to know what the top speed in 2nd gear is for an 85.5 n/a.

i'd like to argue that if it was indeed true that i was in 3rd gear, i would be at a higher speed. i dont know if i can, or if i even should bother, but i guess its worth a try.

any input is appreciated, thank you

This isn't what your looking to hear, but if you redlined it in 2nd with a quick shift to third, that would put you close to the 65 mph he observed. I'll hold out on the legal advice because there will probably be many people much smarter than me chiming in on that in a few moments.

I will spare you the lecture about street racing, but please get some insurance!!

Also, play the fact that you NEVER admitted guilt. I don't need to tell you this, as I am sure you have already appointed legal council and they will handle things for you.

If you have not appointed an attorney, then you need to. These are not just speeding tickets. You are talking about some serious crimes. They are misdemeanors, not just traffic infractions. (Driving without insurance may even be a felony! )

an 84 n/a will be going 57mph at 6400rpm. (used some phunky calc. on a website I wish I could point you to...maybe a 'lister can tell me?) in third at redline in an 84, you'll be going 84mph.
IIRC, I calculated this w/o a LSD. YMMV
Or so I'm told.

I thought the top speed in 2nd gear was about 58mph? I honestly have never really payed attention to the speedo while redlining it (which i hardly ever do anyway). Mind you this will change based on your tire sizes by a few %.

The 944S tranny on the other hand had a taller 1st and 2nd i believe, you could hit something like 64mph in 2nd i have heard.

I know I can get 60 out of mine in 2nd gear while still short of the redline, but I hardly ever do it either so that's about all I can say. If someone has an owners manual handy it should be in the back.

Does your car have an aftermarket chip? Most of the reasoning behind the chips lowering 0-60mph time is because it eliminates or raises the rev limit, allowing you to avoid making that 2nd to 3rd shift to hit 60mph.

Nope I don't have a chip, and I could be wrong too so that's why someone should look it up, or go do a quick field test

After reading his second to last post, I believe he had insurance, just no proof of insurance. Having no insurance is a VERY serious offense, having on proof of it is just a minor infraction.

Hey troll, I just installed a chair lift for my 41 yr. old wife, she USED to love ball roon dancing, no amount of insurance will ever make it right, the speeding tractor trailer never even slowed down. I guess u might say she's lucky to be alive, someone like YOU ( no insurance) could spend the rest of YOUR life paying for medical care, drive on you're right u don't need insurance.

Ted he says NO INSURANCE. This is it for me, hit a real nerve here, ever had someone run into u and say they have no insurance as if that makes it ok ? If I had all the money I spent on my insurances I could have new porches lined up in my driveway, alot of that insurance cost is to carry people like TROLL.

i understand that what i have done is wrong, and asked respectfully for no flames, but of course, they've already chimmed in.

the reason behind not having insurance is because i recently aquired this vehicle and it has aftermarket header and no cat.

i have to get it smog legal in order to obtain insurance.

ripit, nowhere did i EVER say that i didnt need insurance, and maybe if you werent so caught up in your emotions you'd have carefully read what i said.

let me quote msyelf, "
for being 20 miles over the speed limit and not having insurance, they were trying to give me 30 days (first offense)

mind you, i cant do this time as i am a full time student..."

i said i cannot do this time as i am a full time student, nowhere again did i EVER say i did not need it and couldn't afford it, nor did i imply or infer it.

i am sorry about your wife, but if someone like YOU could tell her ill go out clubbin for her this weekend, it'd be appreciated.

anyhoo, thanks all for those who have offered their help.
