You simply purchase a hood-release t-handle and cable kit from a local autoparts store (universal), then run the cable under the rear carpet and then set it up to pull the release arm. I used a travel-agent cable carrier (a bicycle part) to reverse the pull since the lever pulls to the passenger side of the car and the release stock position is on the driver's side on the CS. I don't have a pic of the the travel agent part on this computer, but I do on my other one (not handy to me at this moment.)

This is where the t-bar goes that you pull.

How do you route the cable around the car? Tie wraps? Does it matter much? Pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks a bunch,
Tom

Hey guys check the DIY forum. I put procedures up on the rear seat removal. All we need is the manual inner hatch release DIY

It's not difficult. Pull the hatch carpet, you will see some wires (for the rear lights) that are bundled and run under the hatch carpet on the drivers side. There are factory metal tabs that bend down and hold them in place. The cable routes along in tandem with them, for the most part the metal tabs hold it put, but a strategic zip tie or two helps. An anchor for the front and rear of the cable housing needs to be established so that the housing stays put when you pull the t-handle (like depressing the brake lever on a bicycle). The universal hood release kit comes with a stop that works great under the carpet in the front of the hatch behind the drivers seat, it gets bolted/screwed to the car. In the back, the travel agent (basically a reversing pulley) has a stop built into it, plus a barrell adjuster for taking up the slack if need be. The travel agent looks like this:

Andy...
... still looks a little heavy too me...

10lbs more to come out!

Actually it looks really nice. I thought about doing a lightweight street car for while now, but don't have the car for it. My Turbo S will stay stock, 944-spec already stripped. My 83... well why? I already have my 944-spec much lighter. I guess I need to get a 951 and do that to it, but really don't want to spend the money for one. Oh well I guess you can't have everything.

Wouldn't a 944 go from ES to CSP in SCCA autox rules?

Ahhhhhhhhh. I didn't recognize the P-# class numbers that our PCA area uses, so I thought that was SCCA. Gotcha.

The GS cars are fairly fast I noticed. Then again I keep getting last place so even an NA 1976 924 autocrossing would be fast to me
