Whats the point of a car if it actually HINDERS your lifestyle. If you care so much about minor things like that you should not drive a pristine car (or only take it for weekend drives for the matter).

Since when (and where?!) are auto's going for more.. I've missed it. If anything, they are probably going for more because they are in nice shape because they haven't been beat on.. I guess theres not many auto's compared to people shopping for them maybe, but I don't know how many actually are looking for them?

the secret to having a pcar at college is:
Dont flaunt it, at all. Be vague when people ask what you drive.
Dont wash the car, leave the dirt on it.
Get an alarm (but not one that goes off all the time)
Make sure nothing valuable is ever visible in it.

I went two years in the dorms with mine, the human incidents consisted of:
1 door slam that set off alarm
mustard on the hood once
love notes and wash me's drawn into the dirt

I was offered an even swap 968 engine for my 2.7 engine cause the guy wanted my block.

I would hold out for more, especially back east. The little extra horses and the "rare" engine warrant a little more in my opinion.

I paid $5000 for mine with 69000 miles on it, but it needed (still does) work. If the belts had been replaced at 60000 and it wasn't leaking oil, I would have paid 6000 for it.

Good advice. People hear porsche and immediately turn green with envy. Or they just prejudge you as being a rich snob. Of course they dont know what turds these cars actually are.

"Working in the Ghetto and parking your car overnight on college parking lots are two different things, do you leave your car overnight in the ghetto like people living on campus do?. I'm not paranoid i'm just giving you info. based on what happened to my friends and my car. You just cannot understand do ya?"

Sure have. My GF lives in the ghetto too.

I have a weakness for the latin ladies.

Besides, there are enough mercedes, Bmws, escalades, and navigators in the ghetto on any given block that my car is guaranteed to never be one of the most valuable cars on the street.

I'm an auto repossessor, trust me, i know a little something about da ghetto.

Send a PM to Adrial. IIRC he's at Rutgers.
I went to NJIT for 3 years in the heart of Newark back in the olden days when I'm sure it was a lot tougher. I got a car cover for my new (at the time) 1977 280Z and parked on the street every night - this was in the Branchbrook neighborhood.
Good advice from the others above - dont flaunt it, drive it.

Broke ALL of those...

Last year, just the first 2

on my Dorm room door, I had a HUGE Porsche crest sticker... and the car was never dirty... even in the winter. I was proud...

I even kept it under a cover Freshman year... that stopped quickly when my cover had a cigarette burn on the windshield...

first 2 years of college, I didn't have an alarm and never took the face plate off of the stereo, left CD case in there, etc... one morning, get a phone call from Campus Security.. "Do you have a Porsche?" " ummm..yeah, why?" "It was just broken into..."

a new stereo, window, and center console later.... But other than that isolated incident (crack heads lookin for stuff to pawn to support their habits) the worst I've had was about 3 piles of dried on spit on the glass, and one on the roof... never happened since.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about going off to college with a 944--most renobs don't even know what it is...or they will think it is some random 70s car.....Don't let society bog you down or make you feel worried about what you drive--it's your car, you earned it, drive it with pride and if something happens to it just know that karma will catch up to the bastage that did it to your car.

I really think you'll be fine though...

personally i would be paranoid as hell driving my car to college and parking it. When i was in college i had a nice mustang, so i found a beater mustang to drive to college for awhile. I didnt care about it so i didnt even notice if it was beat up. Ever seen the movie roadhouse?
