FS 85.0 944 - PICS Added
As I just bought another 928 the 944 must go.
The condition is a bit rough but it has been a solid daily driver for the past few years. I acquired this car (non running) as a package deal a few years back when I bought an 86 928. The tb had stripped toasting the the valves and the car had sat about 10 years in this condition. The car had 60000mi. I went and pulled the head, had the valves replaced, did the belts and wp. I also replaced the transaxle with one provided by George B. and have been driving it almost daily ever since. The cuurent problems it has probably place this into the parts car/fixer upper category And perhaps a track candidate. The car has 87000 mi showing with a recently dead odo but consistant use of a portable GPS adds about 9000 to that.
I will take pics tonight and add them.
The bad:
Fuel gauge inop.
odo inop. (Speedo is fine)
rubber clutch center gone (been driving it this way for 2 years).
front spoiler warped.
dent on passengers side lower door.
paint contains scratches and plenty of chips.
ac inop - does not hold a charge.
dash cracks
small tear at seam in the drivers lower seat
The good:
Engine runs strong-good compression in all cylinders.
brand new rubber on fuchs 15" (bought last week)
the car handles tight as it should
With the exception of the dash, the interior is actually in quite good condition.
I have additional parts that go with the car including additional door panels, air flow sensor, computer, front fan assembly, ac compressor, fuel pump and few other things I can't think of off the top of my head. Asking price for all is 1200.00

Driving around for 2 years with a deteriorated rubber clutch center is a sure-fire way to kill a 944 transaxle. The inoperable odo is most certainly the little plastic odo gear that Rennbay and KLA sell.
Otherwise, it doesn't look like too bad of a car for that price. Good luck with the sale! Is it the black on in your avatar?

Color is black/black.
Had I known the rubber center was going about to go south, I would have replaced the clutch when I had the transaxle out.
I know that the odogear is probably the culprit , same issue on the 928's.
You guys know what it's like with maintenance and upkeep of just one of these cars. Multiply it by 3 and square it for the 928's and you'll get an idea of where I spend all of my free time. Now with another 928 on the way, the 944 has got to go.

man, that sure is tempting! The odometer is most likely just slid out of position, as the problems w/ the early cars are different than the late. slide it back and space it to keep it centered and its done.

The cookie cutters are still light, and desirable for racing.
Huh, too bad she's not out here. But I've got my '83, and already did the clutch (though done wrong, argh!). Wouldn't mind another black/black baby, but the clutch is an issue with me.
