Why is my NA so quick? Seriously
So I recently got my 944 running after 8 months. Basically did every preventative maintenance job you can do to these cars. The thing runs like a dream. Anyways I have been doing some mountain road driving with it and have noticed some things. The car is actually pretty quick! 1st gear is garbage but 2nd, to 3rd, to 4th all pull very very hard. My tires will chirp from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th the change is enough to push me back into my seat. Driving around town the car feels slow sort of like an s2000 but once you open it up it get moving pretty quickly. Its not as if I have never owned fast cars either. Ive driven a large assortment of exotics, I own a low 13 sec turbo mr2, Im not saying my NA is a 13 sec car but Im just amazed at how well it performs. I cant imagine what it must be like to drive a nice running 951 hard through the turns.

after the belt-service/new clutch/wheel and tire swap/ & oil change....mine is a very strong runner. it pulls very hard and crisp out of all the 8v n/a 944's ive been in. i havent hit 80,000 miles yet either though.
but i dont know about chirping the tires with my 225mm wide toyo proxies....thats only goign to happen in 1st to 2nd. i'm sure my $200 soft-as-a-pillow vertex clutch doesnt help any chirping either!

These cars might be "slow" off the line, but an NA in good shape will pull nicely when the revs are up. My 88 NA was very peppy! And, you get that Porsche engine song that makes you THINK you are going fast! Wear sound deadening headphones, and you lose 20 HP easy!

Mr.2,
Is your NA an 83? Every 83 I have ever driven has been noticeably faster than every later NA I have driven. My former 83 could also chirp the tires from 2nd to 3rd, and 3rd to 4th had a real thrust, too. I'm not one for power displays, but the 83 I had could leave a nice long patch of rubber on any pavement. A friend of mine used to have an 89 (2.7!) and from a standing start (in a deserted place far from people/vehicles/etc.) up to 70-80mph, I would always have my front wheels at least at his front bumper, if not a little farther.
Regards,
Tony

Didn't the 83's have something different with the rods or pistons, like cast pistons or something liek that, that was also used in the turbo's?
Not saying that necessarily has anything to do with it... just thought I heard something about it and thought it might be a reason.
