Default Question concerning asbestos in the insulation on 924S

I was working around the slave cylinder when I relised that the heatshielding/insulation around the bellhouseing area might have large amounts of asbestos. Can anyone calm my fears of this being asbestos insulation and if it is asbestos how can I safely remove it and replace it with newier insulation material.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure it's just fiberglass. I'd suggest you spray some high temperature adhesive on the stuff and cover it with heavy duty aluminum foil.

Actually, it was 1989, and it's still used in some applications. http://www.epa.gov/asbestos/ban.html

If it is asbestos, try not to disturb it. The fibers have to friable (ie.,broken apart), before you even begin to be at a possible risk of inhaling any fibers.

I certainly hope its not...but i cannot confirm either way. Someone needs to take a sample and test it.

Exactly - asbestos is only harmful if you breathe in the dust. For that matter, so is fiberglass.

if your worried keep it wet so you don't get dust and remove it. But I would leave it alone.

I agree that perhaps somebody should have it tested. Every so often, this topic comes up on here, and nobody has a definitive answer. I would offer to, providing it's not expensive, and somebody can tell me which heat guard I should pull the insulation from to get the stuff that people think is asbestos.
