Default HEAT ALWAYS ON BE GONE

I am the master! Okay, Not really... but I feel triumphant.

I finally fixed my HEAT ALWAYS ON issue..

The classic plastic clip issue..

I squeezed my 6 foot 4 inch *** under driver side dash..
that was the real feat.

The part that took the longest was the black cover for the rod mechanism. Screwing that back in was a nightmare.

Ahhhh.. heat off just in time for summer!

I remember having to fix that! I just wish I had kept the reciept for the parts... this was probably the only time I could have ever fixed my Porsche with new, factory parts for $1.52...

If it's a late-style 944, you remove the plastic cover on the center console right next to your right foot. There is a plastic clip down there that often breaks. Replace it.

Early 944s are a bit different, IIRC.

Also, this is no guarantee that this is the problem. But it takes three screws to find out...

if that clip isn't the problem, try replacing the vac lines... that fixed the problem in my dad's turbo...

I had the problem when I got my 951 earlier this year in Seattle. 1.62 from the dealer and it was fixed. Since I have an 86 there were no screws and no cover so it took about 3 min. to fix.

Set a a comforatble setting, my heater intermitantly turns very hot air for several minutes, then cools down to where it's set. No rhym or reason that I can tell.

Is replacing the vacumm lines the best place to start?

Thnaks in advance.

Sounds like the quirky-ness of the 944 automatic climate control.

HOT... cold... HOT... cold

I don't think you can fix it

Just yesterday, I was driving with both the a/c and heat off, fan turned down to lowest setting, and noticed hot air coming out the vents. Put on the a/c and cool air came out, as expected.

Is this the "clip" problem? 1990 S2.

No.. My understanding is that if the heater clip is gone, you have FULL heat.. and AC is not even enough to over power it.

For those of you wondering what it looks like and how to fix it. Here is the link to Clarks Garage and a pict.

The symptoms are usually always heat no matter what you do. Sometimes you can redirect it or make it cooler (Less hot) with the AC, but it doesn't usually ever feel cool.

The heater control valve can cause problems, or the vaccum hoses as mentioned before. Coolant being low also can play tricks. See the link above for more details.

Anyone know offhand which side the rod/clip mechanism is on a RHD 944 (S2 1990)?

I stuck my head under the dash on both sides and couldn't spot anything that looked like the picture on Clark's Garage...
