Im lookin at those Pete. Just hard to find a relatively low mile one in exc condition in CS Quattro trim.

Dealer in Cleveland has one for $5995. A 93 or 94 model. He says its a 7 outta 10. 89K miles. On one pic it looked nell carter tried to eat the lip of the rims though. so I wonder what else she tried to eat.

So it's worth it to give up the 951 for a VR4 but not for a WRX? Is it because the 3000GT looks cooler than the Subaru?

More plush, looks are a lot better. Five grand cheaper.

Well bad news. My SVX lead decided he doesnt want to sell his car after all.

Not good.

A lot of you are still hammering this comparison to the 951. I cant stress this enough, I could care less how it performs compared to a 951. Im going to be driving this thing in bumper traffic, through potholes, in the city, on the highway, parking it in bad neighborhoods all day. Etc etc.
Oh yeah.. I knew I forgot something. What suspension mods do you have on the '51 right now that make it uncomfortable on the road? The VR4 doesn't have exactly plush suspension itself, ya know.

In reference to the brakes issue... I can't say I've heard that, but it doesn't suprise me, it does weigh 3750 lbs. without anything in it! My buddy's only problem with the brakes was watching traffic behind him to make sure he didn't get hit... but then again he had $1500 15" cross-drilled/vented Wilwoods on there being grabbed by AP calipers... 8 pot if I remember correctly.

A 3000gt more reiable than a 951? Um no. It was but by the Diamond star motorss compnay back in the early to mid nineties. ANd take it for experience I used to one a DSM car and still have many friends that still own them. If it has a DSM badge on it and is turbo changed it will spend more time broken in your drive way and you actually driving it. ANd with it being cheaper to maintain yes and no it is cheaper because its japanese however parts for those cars are still alot higher then a Suburau. WHen my old DSM got back into by a guy in a Durango the insurance company quated me 800 dollars for a bumper 600 dollars for 1 headlight and 500 dollars for a fender. now that aint cheap. If I where you I would run away from the 3kgt as they are more trouble then there worth.

ANd as a side not I sold my car with 100K on it after teh ECU went on the car for the 3rd time in its life

Good Luck

If someone helped me put in an entire new A/C system in the 951 I'll keep the car and buy them two cases of High Life.

How much would that set me back.

Edit: when I mean "help me put in an entire new A/C system" what I really mean is, "let me help you put in an entire A/C system" in my car.

Jerry Jaspers has a really nice Audi 90 that you might be able to talk him out of.

So let me get this straight, you want a quality, two door 4 wheel drive sports car that is under $6000?

Ya might as well ask for 60 MPG, 200K mile bumper to bumper warranty, green light activation, warp drive and 17 year old blonde seatwarmers included!

Yep, those Audi coupes are hard to find. I settled for a Quattro 5000 S for a winter, it wasn't bad once you got past all the high tech do-dads out of service. They will blast thru any snow though, and make you quite comfortable while they do it. The 5000's can be made to run quite well with the CS setup, and the old unintended acceleration fiasco insures a dirt cheap resale/used purchase.

I only wanted another sports car if I gave up the 951. Not giving that up my requirement is:

full time AWD (no on demand jazz like CRVs)
Newer than 1992
Pretty decent reliability with a good track record of maintenance
Pretty good fun (do not equate fun with speed)
Very nice comfortable interior with excellent fit and finish that may have been high-end at the time
Something thats quasi sporting in nature
2dr or 4dr but a smaller car. I prefer smaller 4drs, not yachts
Prefer leather interior
Butt warmers a huge plus

Cost of preventive maintenance is not a deterrent as long as Im not inheriting every single item just waiting to be done.

Id like to spend no more than $5000 but Id spend $6000 if the car looked like and drove like it was cared for by a 60yr old grandmother who drove to the grocery once a week.

well let me step in here, i have owned 94 vr4, great cars, very heavy though. a lot people dont know that they AWD and AWS (steering)(few degrees) after 30mph. as far as reliabitity , they are like a 4 cyl honda, never stops, unless of course you start messing with them. also, their suspention is way ahead of its time, ECS (Electronic Control Suspension). now the bad, they have tansmission problems, make sure the tranny is not noisy at high speed, dude thats like 5k to have it redone.
now, the price is a little high i think, if you look harder, you may find a better deal, eventhough that car looks pretty clean.
as far as 951s , they are great cars, but if you are passed that 951 rush , i guess 3000gt s are not a bad pick
good luck
