Should 951 go for a cherry 3000GT VR4? Listen to me first!

So do RX7s and 951s.

My comments were to be used in the context of whom I was speaking to. UD is more into detailing and car shows, and not so much getting into the boost. He is also an intelligent buyer that tends to look at cars more as an investment verses something solely emotional (not to say he doesn't enjoy driving them). While his 951 is very nice, it is not the concourse material that the 930 is. It really makes no sense to have both, especially considering the fact that the 951 is not being driven and not practical for his daily driving application.
Feel free to stone me, I am ready for it. After the hackjob I received here yesterday on this BBS, nothing would phaze me in the least.

Appreciation is never an issue with the 951s as they never have. I would never use redundant when comparing a 930 to a 951. They are different enough animals to warrant space in the same garage.

UD, If you can find one of these over here, i'll take 2!! (my dream car as a lil kid)
If the roads are rough in dayton, I don't know about a SUV. My blazer (ZR2 offroad package) is a harsh ride, worse than the 951.

Wes, I had one in HS when I lived in England. It was pretty cool. When I got back to the states I looked at buying one. The guy wanted 27K dollars for it. The one I had just sold went for like 9K. You could get close with an XR4Ti with converted AWD setup.

Im thinking of driving the 951 more actually. Using it more for the May-October months. I just paid the 1yr collector insurance on it which is only $300 so I'll keep it for weekends until next April when the premium is up, but Im leaning toward putting it on regular insurance so I can drive it year round with no restrictions. It needs new A/C, I have a feeling it could use some new motor mounts too. My sunroof is stuck open. Other than that the belt and pump was changed 3000 miles ago so I really have 30,000-40,000 miles ahead of me with little to worry about but oil changes. And its got enough rock chips (few than most, too many for me) to worry about a few more.
But Im not a real SUV kind of person. I just dont like real big cars. Im not a large sedan lover either. A Forester would be about my size limit. But I want something I can still drive year around too with the AWD. The two cars would give me an option for either/or in the warm months and I would have some fun in both.
I dont really see the 951 as an investment. If I dumped it I could buy Kurts red/champaige when he decides to sell it and have Porsche twins, but Im more attached to it than I honestly lead on. I like it as much as the 930. One weekend I had it home in March I drove it Saturday and Sunday for 140 miles and the 930 never left the garage. I didnt want to get it dirty.![Frown](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
The Fitty One was my first though. Has a special place. Its in my favorite color and I remember how long it took me to find it. Its honestly been ridiculously reliable. Other than three fricking grand in routine maintenance for the 60K service and that FPR issue the car has never not started and drove like a champ. In 6yrs its never once left a drop on the garage floor. And like anything, when you give a car for another later on, its the evil you know vs the evil you dont. I know this evil and it has no evil. Other than whats under the hood I know the car front and back (oxymoron?). Ive just been putting most of the bucks into the 930 and Id like to redo the 951 A/C, get the rims repolished/painted, and a couple other things to make me content with it.

UD Pride,
I daily Drove my 951 for past 2 months (4000 miles). Once it got used to it (1 week) it really turned out to be nice daily driver. It was comfortable, easy to drive and got me 25 mpg.
I can't say how it would do in the snow, but with a set of snow tires?
Funny thing is that the car ran much better at the end of the 4000 miles than it did at the beginning. All the drivng really was good for the car. I too have had my 951 since 1997. I have put 35k on it in that time and prior to this drove it work 2-3 times a month at most. I really enjoyed it. I just got a 2002 BMW 530i for my daily driver since I needed two automatic and child friendly cars in the stable. While the BMW is great I STILL love my 951. My 1984 NA will have to go, but my 951 will be maintained. I always appreciated the car's performance, but uptill now never realized how driveable a 951 really is. If it were not for family needs I'd keep driving my 951.
Now that summer is comming you may want to try it for a while and see how you like it. If it does not work out then sell it.
I'd bet that you get your cash back on the collector insurance if you wanted to daily drive the 951.

I thought it was odd that you want a Subaru SVX, I just saw a 1995 FS in a local auto mart, it's located in San Antonio, TX and they're listing it for $4900, red. Not much more info, but it would still be under your budget to fly down here and drive it back. Ph: 210-384-3838, close to the airport. I'll look at it for you if you want.
Also a 1985 928S at the same place.

Yeah I am interested in SVX. I drove one recently and they drive great and have 230hp for some good daily power through the urban jungle. Pretty good character kind of car and all the bells and whistles.
Only problem with a long distance car is getting it to Ohio. It could cost another $1000 to get it here. So how much would I really be saving. I was looking at one on Ebay in Florida and door to door delivery quote was $1200.
Some of the SVXs arent AWD. Only he LSL and LSi models.
I was really really bummed my local guy bailed on me and is taking his SVX to CA with him. Other than a major grounding issue on his stereo equipment that produced a large whine, and a little dirt, the car was in superior shape.

No I thought it was odd cause it's not a car you see a lot of, actually the first in a long time for me, then you mention you were looking for one, it struck me as odd, sorry.
If you flew down here one Friday evening picked up the car you could take a very leisurely drive back to Ohio and be home before dark on Sunday. Total cost about $600 and some bonding time with your new car.
The ad says it's awd, doesn't say the model though.

Well that 90 Quattro I linked to above is going nowhere. I emailed the salesman for more info and he said, "it is what it is. it could last 10yrs or blow up on your drive home."
Not exactly the words to inspire confidence in your automotive salesperson.

I got it in jan and started driving in mid-feb but now with over 5,000mi of my own driving on the car it is running sooooo much better. More power across the powerband and much better gas mileage. Some may think negitive on my decision to drive the car daily but I have found it to be compleately rewarding.

Hey UD,
FYI in the event you care to go the Audi route. Here's a little homework to get you ahead of the game for the 93 to 95 Audi's with the V-6 12v engines (which was almost all of them except for the S models)
http://www.12v.org/faq/index.php
and
http://www.12v.org
I'll keep and eye out for a quattro.

How about a decent Audi Coupe Quattro ? Or even better if you can ignore age, the original Audi quattro.
Proper 80's rally cool
Who said Ford Cosworth ? Couldn't resist a spot of googling.
The original winged monster(touring car spec Ford Sierra Cosworth)
Rally spec 4dr 4x4
Bank robbers getaway car(Ford Sierra Cosworth 4x4 225bhp)
