Hey Dan G..hang on to it and bring it to the Fest!

Devon, I understand, that is quite limiting. I suppose we could set up a few cones and time folks trying to use the limited controls to run a odd version of a slalom. Honestly, with the real deal wailing on the dyno and pristine 1:1 scale models about I don't plan on putting much time toward a course for the mini ones. As the night wears on I'm sure there is some fun to be had, but it won't make the official event schedule. I'll leave the course up to those who have the machines to play with. (XSBoost, you want to be in charge of that?)

OK?

Hmmm.. I've got an idea. Check this pic, it is of my Kyosho Mini-Z with a body from a Hasegawa 1/24 951 kit! The wheelbase is perfect! The problem I see is it is a 4x4 lifted chassis, the front springs poke up thru the hood so I'd have to make it look like a 4x4, not worth the sacrifice of a model. The hunt is on for a Kyosho Mini-Z with the lower, non-off road setup. This could be sweet!

I did some more research.. The Kyosho MR02 Mini-Z is about 1/28 scale with adjustable wheelbases. It is quite an elaborate little toy with adjustable gearing, 4 wheel independent suspension, all radios etc included for about $100. Check out http://www.kyosho.com/cars/kyod01x1.html
PLUS
Most of the (rare) hasegawa and testors plastic model kits are 1/24th. They sell for around $30 to $40 on Ebay.

You could build a nearly exact remote control replica of your car for about $150, and the thing really scoots and drives well for it's size. My Mini-Z Overland (basically the same thing with more suspension travel) rips around the house, over carpet etc with surprising suspension realism. The only downside would be the fragile nature of the plastic models, one good whack into a table leg and the body could be toast!

Holy mackeral! I could buy REAL aluminum rims for it!!

(The chin spoiler there could be of use prolonging body life!)

I thought these RC car bodys were 1/18, not 1/24? you think 1/24 is good even for the red 944 bodies here?

Well, DanG (edit) said:
"FYI, the dimesions on the body are:
overall length: 17.5 cm (7 in)"

My 1/24th Hasegawa 944 Turbo kit is 6.5".
The Mini-Z stuff is 6.6 inches long and they call it 1/28th.

BUT:
I'm beyond using one of the CVS toys, (that I can't find anywhere) I'm going over the top for a real fully proportional high performance street (not offroad) version. Yea, it will be $150 not 9.99. I won't run it in the 944Fest derby, but I may do a few laps for the crowd!

You mean dan said the dimensions, not me...

Oh, are you using that model body you showed? or is there an actual kit to build a 944?

Oh yea, sorry.. you know what I meant. DanG posted the sizes.

Yes, I'm talking about buying a correct scale high end RC car and merging it with a Hasegawa plastic 944 model car kit of a similar scale to produce a product that is not available from any manufacturer! Here's a pic of the kit I'd have to pillage (that is the only sad part other than the $$$$!)

Sounds/looks like fun.. I am more just hoping I can find a cheapo AA powered car to rip the body off of and stick this one on. You know, like typical radioshack remote control car power. I don't really care about suspension, its about driver skill to win the derby, not hp! hehe.

BTW i dont know how you even have time to think about this stuff, i'm 18, just college and a part time job.. and i cant even find time to order parts to fix my car, yet you can build 944 model rc's.

more power to ya though,,!

Yep.. just about anything can beat a truck that only goes straight forward and turns left in reverse!

Here's an expensive Hasegawa if anyone is really interested:

Winter time when the car is snug in the garage frees up time for fiddling about! (Plus the kids are asleep!)

This thread just keeps getting more interesting. Have an R/C 944/951 would be awesome.
