Two different windshield sizes??!!
Just got off the phone with the windshield replacement company. I asked them for a price for a new windshield WITHOUT antenna. They said that if it originally came with the antenna (mine did) then I had to get a new one with the antenna because they're two different sizes.
Aren't all 944's the same body shells regardless of factory options like radial antennas??? Where is the different size coming from?
Someone educate me, please.

Also the windshield changed with the addition of the air bags in later cars. The air bag cars have a rubber strip on the inside at the bottom that spaces the windshield another 1" from the car. I know this because the stupid windshield place down here tried to put one in my non airbag car and had to remove it, cut off the rubber strip and reinstall it because it would not sit down all the way.

All good info here guys, but I'm asking whether there is a difference between a 1986 replacement windshield WITH an antenna versus a 1986 replacement windshield WITHOUT an antenna. ??? They're telling me that there's two different sizes for the same car.

The PET does not show a late windshield without an antenna. I have been told by my windshild shop that I couldn't put put an early windshield in a late car, but that they did sell a late one without an antenna.
For what it's worth, Safelite auto glass (www.safelite.com) put in a new tinted windshield with an antenna into my 87 for $350 installed. Even had the windshield in stock. They're a national chain so they may be near you.

How about a 968 windshield? Late model, no antenna.
Safelite put the factory windshield in my car for $420. Think the quote for the 968 unit was more or a trivial amount less.

I had mine replaced a couple years back on my '87...no problem getting one without the antenna...and it was an OEM unit made in Germany. So they are available for later models.

Ok, here is a tip that will save you guys a lot of money. Go to safe-lite and get a windshield. I had one installed for under $300 in my 86 turbo. They DID have the option to have the late windshield with or without the antenna. Because the windshields are not OEM they made the option to not have the antenna.
The installers at safe-lite are total idiots but the savings vs an OEM replacement is worth the trouble. BTW, the $300 installed (on site) was with the antenna.

I just had Safelite put a nice PGP tinted windshield in my car for $210 installed after tax. Got to love early cars sometimes. The installer scared the hell out of me as he jerked, scraped and did various things to my car. The whole time I only had the confidence that this is a national chain and if they jack up my car, they are insured. They did a good job, however, and it's warrantied nation wide. Give them a call, they will save you some $$$, plus they stand behind thier work.

I have a windshield from my parts car that I'm trying to get rid of, If you can come pick it up you can have it for $150, it is perfect but the antenna part broke off the bottom of it. I don't think that can be repair, but I don't know. It is late airbag model.
