Default 15 inch wheels, what size tires

Just curious, for those with 15 inch wheels, what tires are you running? Size and brand. Currently I have 225/60/15, I feel they are too tall. Looking for 225/50/15s.
Opinions?

P215/60R15 is the "correct" size. The 225/60R15 you are running is, indeed, too tall. Just looks goofy. The 225/50R15 is too short but looks a little better. It does leave a fender gap that I am not fond of.

Not a lot of choices in the 225/50R15 but you can get S-03s if you are serious about performance. Beyond that the ES100 and the BFG Sport are both available in that size for less money/performance.

That is kind of a bastard size, it was never OE on anything so everything available is a "trade" tire. For a long time that size was used on lowered mini trucks so most of what was available was in non-performace tires. Now there is a small niche sports car market, thus the limited offerings. I wouldnt be shocked to see that size slowly go away in the next 2-3 years.

I bought my car with 225/60r15 on them and they look bubbly like the sidewalls are bulging out too much. What do you mean too tall? How would 215's differ?

Here's a pic.

215/60's and 225/60's do differ in height, the aspect ratio (the 60 bit) is 60 percent of the width, so if a tyre is 215 cross section its aspect ratio at 60 percent is 129mm . A 225/60 tyre is 135 mm's making the whole wheel and tyre 12mm taller (ignoring tyre pressure!) not sure you would notice the difference with the naked eye.

These are 225/50/15 in Kumho Victoracers.
And, don't worry... I don't drive around on the blue wheels, they get switched in at events..

Umm I actually think the blue wheel contrasts nicely. I know from experience that 944's handle very sweetly on 225/50/15's but they do look too small, fine if you don't mind how the car looks but I'm too vain! I would imagine that size wheel and tyre would look fine on a 924S but 944 arches are too big and need filling.

What about 225/55/15 for a 7" wheel or 245/50/15 on an 8" wheel? These are close to stock, but it seems there's not much out there in either size. Tirerack shows only one tire in each size, anybody know of any others in these sizes?

I am thinking of Yoko AVS in 225/50/15. Only concern would be the extra wheel gap, but right now I get a bit of fender rub, so a gap may not be all that bad.

i love the look of the 225/50/15 tires on the 44/24s and they make the car peppier but the speedo will read faster than actual. I would go w/ the 225/60 or 205/? to make it right for the street though.

"60" is an aspect ratio. Therefore as the width increases, so does the profile height.

Currently 205/50/15 front 225/50/15 rear. Fronts are Firestone (go figure) Firehawk Indy 500. Rear's are some Cooper-off brand something that I picked up cheaply.

BTW the tires are on the avatar pic
