Default Best Paint remover

What is a good paint remover to use for prep before taking a panel to get painted by a body shop?

depends on how far down you want to go...i usually sand, but recently ive been using marhyde aircraft remover to take it off down to original coating of zinc-or in my case bare metal.

if you have original paint in decent condition, i wouldnt strip it. If it has been repainted or is real nasty, then stripping is the key. you are much better just wetsanding the car down and feathering out the knicks and spotting it in w/ some real eurethane primer.

MEK will take paint to bare steel quickly. It is very hard on hands, eyes, and plastic.

I have been using airstrip aircraft stripper takes about 5-10 minutes depending on the temperature. I stripped my 944 in a day at about 80 degrees with help from my dad.

Yes aircraft stripper will ruin plastic. You must remove all plastic parts or be extremely careful not to get the stripper on plastic.

I agree, that OEM paint that has lasted almost 20 years offers another barrier of protection. I wouldn't go to metal unless you had serious problems down below the orginal primer, which I doubt you do. Going to the metal just adds steps to the painting process. Also, if you go to metal you should epoxy seal the car before primer and you should do this ASAP after stripping. Else you will create problems like rust underneath your new finish.

Yes the aircraft stripper will melt plastic it even tells you if you got it on your skin lol. I pretty much completely disassembed my car before doing any kind of strippig, and its actually called talstrip not airstrip as i stated before.

Apparently brake fluid will do a nice job.

Be careful when you fill your brake resivoir by the way. Brake boosters are a pain to repaint.
