Default Early 944 Fuel lines are damaged - repair or buy anew??

In replacing my fuel injectors, i crimped off the two fuel lines going to/from the fuel rail. I accidentially punctured one of them a tiny bit (i saw just a tiny bit of gas coming out of it).

So my question is, where do I go from here? I can't find any of the normal parts suppliers who carry new fuel lines for EARLY 944's (only late 944's). Should i just buy bulk fuel line and hope I crimp them on the existing connectors well enough?

Is there any sort of sealing compound I can use on the rubber that can withstand the high pressure that the lines have and the high temperature in the engine bay?

I'm sorry I can't remember who I bought it from, but I'm sure you can buy the right kind of hose (fuel pressure is less than 100 psi IIRC). The hard part is getting to the swage connectors on the exisitng hard lines. These are located down behind the brake booster on the firewall. IIRC, I had to loosen a few hard line to body clamps to pull the hard lines away from the firewall. I then used a dremel-type cut off wheel to carefully cut around the swage but being careful not to cut too deep. Once you get the swage collar off and pull of the old hose, you'll see that a hose barb is present. Slide on the new hose and use a good quality screw clamp. Good as new. I did this about 10 years ago and have had no leakage since.

these lines are coming from the drivers side right? COmmon occurance is for these lines to delaminate and leak. If you cut-carefully- the outer crimp ring off the end of the lines, the metal at each end-one by the brake booster and one on the fuel rail- has a ferral on each end and that crimp ring holds the line on. Replace the rubber w/ some hi pressure FI line- can get at autozone or anywhere alittle pricey like 5bucks a foot- and then put two small hose clamps on each end. This is common practice, i have it on my 924s and has never shown problems. The repair kit is almost the exact same thing but different clamps.

On a 924s, the fuel lines go behind the brake booster. Doesn't it go through the passenger fender on 944's?

The person who replaced them on my car (before I knew about Rennlist, he used using compression fittings) snapped the plastic clip that holds the lines to the firewall. That's a special order part from Germany.

Someone over Thanksgiving weekend (needed to make an emergency repair and) cut off the hose carefully enough that he could clamp on new hose onto the old fittings. Therefore, he just replaced the hose.

Also, www.rennbay.com also sells the fuel line replacement kit, if you wanted new hose and new fittings. They also have instructions of the procedure.

Thanks for the info. But the early 944 fuel lines are just like the 924s. Rennbay's fuel line replacement kit is only for late 944's and uses different fittings unfortunately..

3 of 4 connections are just hose clamps. It seems to me that the rennbay kit has the same fittings on the fuel rail side of both hoses (a clamp on the return, and a standard fitting on the FPR).

Is the problem that the hoses would need to be longer on a 924s then a 944?

Both lines are one piece from factory. So as Peckster said need new ones. I found this to be accurate yesterday. The line to the damper sprung a leak at the crimp. I have the line from the damper to just under the booster heading towards the front seat for the replacement but it has a screw coupler to connect to the rest of the hard line to the FF/FP. In order to use it I need to buy the second line to complete it as it has no coupler just a crimp hose to steel line.

The flares used on metric lines in the 80's are "metric bubble flare" and are rare at best aftermarket actually it is exclusive part to Porsche. The flare is unlike any other I have seen. So locating the fittings is IMHO are non exsistant thus far.

Not up on the kits available and how they connect a metric fitting to an SAE one on the FPR/damper has me baffled! I was told I need to replace the entire length front to back using oem from dealer.

The angular seats on the fittings is critical if it does not match it will leak is how I understand it. The angle is not like a AN fitting at all.

So I am lost as usual. How are the aftermarket lines getting a conversion fittings metric to SAE to fit the damper/fpr and FF/FP?

PET shows 2 lines for each fuel line. See # 477 209 178A this is the replacement # and 999 181 716 50.

So I have one half and need the other. Does anyone have a fuel line coming from the rear of car to under the front drivers seat tub with a 2"X 17mm hex coupler on it vs the Porsche crimp?

If yes I would like to buy it 3 days ago!!!

If you carefully cut the crimp collar off (not the entire end of the line), and pull of the old hose, you'll see that a barb-like feature is present. Slide on the new hose and use a good quality screw clamp. Good as new. I did this about 10 years ago and have never had a leak since. This works for early 944's and isn't that difficult to do. Sorry I didn't take any photos.

These fuel lines look great though they are off a later model wher the fpr and damper are at opposite ends of the fuel rail. They might do the job though.

Going with Rennbay lines. Not a fan of steel braided fuel lines. Overkill...The braiding is to protect "chaffing" and the steel attracts heat. Steel braided lines are great for areas that the lines rub or vibrate but the fuel lines do not rub anywhere so the steel is overkill IMHO.

Look nice though!
