968 Aero Mirror Upgrade - Pics Found and Uploaded
Well, it's been a busy year - what can I say. I finally found the missing pictures for the Aero Mirror Upgrade and uploaded them to the website. The missing shots were of the backside of the glass on the stock flag mirrors and the motor transmission with wires. The later wasn't all that important, but the backside shot showed the gears pretty good and would help with dissassembly.

I'm still waiting to prime and paint mine. Does anyone know if there is convex mirror glass available for the drivers side? I would think there must be a convex RHD version but I'm not sure where to look.
Never mind, just found it: 965 731 037 00 (Convex mirror glass -left)

What a pain in my butt. I got this done finally. The method does work but it takes a few trys. The link above has the full write up.
It looks like porsche changed the wire colors around on new 968 motors. Time to pretend I know how to use a mutimeter.

Why make easy task complicated? You don't need that "special tool", just a bench vise and a socket extension. It takes about 5 seconds to put mirror "leg" and housing together. Have done it several times without any difficulties.

I don't have a bench vice in my garage. Or any real desire to spend $100 or more on one big enough to fit that whole housing in.
That little hardware rig is under $2.00 worth of hardware.
I am also not entirely sure how to pull off the bench vice method without potentially scratching the paint. Even if I had a vice. I would probably use the little rig they outlined. It is really easy to use once you understand how it works.
Anyway I did manage to get this all wrapped up today. The wiring was a little more complex then I thought it would be. I also somehow managed to crossthread the "bolt" that you use to tighten down the entire assembly. So I had to make an investment in some metric taps. After a few tries the hex bolt eventually lined up and all was well. That is not a bolt you want to screw up on the 944. it seems like it is encased in some kind of slider housing that felt like it was welded to the door. It is almost impossible to see it where it is located. I almost had a heart attack when I thought the bolt was stuck in there.
I am happy with how it looks.

You don't but housing to a vise. You put a socket extension to it.Just hold housing in your hands.
I would not like to "play" with "special tools". If you don't have a vise, most likely some of your friends have it. There is a potential risk to harm paintwork when you play around with hand made special tools. With bench vise & socket extension it took 5 seconds / mirror when i did it last time. That method is also used by Porsche shops, they don't have any special tool for this purpose. Suitable vise can be bought for 10-20€.It would be handy to have for another tasks as well, so money is well spent.
