Default Hatch hard to close..

I've noticed I have to make several attempts to get the hatch to secure in the sub zero weather.. maybe a little WD 40 on the latches? seems like one side will catch- but I have to slam it hard (so hard I'm afraid the hatch will seperate or worse, glass break) the sunroof pops a bit.

Anyone else experience this?

It's time for a complete restoration I think.

Ok. easy fix Chris, you'll need WD-40 and some white lithium grease spray, a 13mm socket (i think) and some rags. open the hatch, remove the latches with the 13 mm. there is a balljoint on there, pry it off GENTLY with a screwdriver...did I mention gently? Anyway, move the drain out of the way, and the latch should come off. Apply WD-40 liberally, wipe with rag, repeat. do this until it operates smoothly. Once it's clean and smooth, operate the mechanism to work the WD-40 into it more, wipe until dry, then douse with the white lithium grease spray. work it into the mechanism, reinstall. it's a 10 minute fix, and VERY easy.g'luck!

I experienced that same problem with a used car. The guy said he adjusted the little bolts or whatever to stop it squeaking... but it barely caught, you sortof have to hold it down and turn the latch if I remember correctly. I was worried about breaking the glass too. Apparently this is a common problem.

My hatch has close flawlessly for years (The car - for you SOW guys) and lately its a PITA. I'll need to apply some new grease. I'll repost tomorrow when its above freezing.

(SOW- NO COMMENTS,I KNOW what youre thinking)

Chris, try KJP's technique. it worked for the symptoms you're describing. I bet it just needs to be re-lubed

I had 6mm allen bolts not 13mm on mine... You can also adjust the height of the bolt as an adjustment mechanism.

Chris, thats scary.

Porschefig, it's all with the police right now. Campus security and I have done all we can...wish the cop's would call me and keep me informed..

NZ, that's for the hatch latches? wierd.... IIRC, we did this to the Turbo as well, and it had the 13mm.....

While you restore the 924 you are going to need a reliable daily driver that wont pull a spinal tap on you. You need my Z28!
