I thought I had read this somewhere, too, only the other way around.
The 924S was geared so as not to have a higher top speed than the "more upscale" 944 because of the 924S aero advantage...........

There are many small differences in the 924S and 944's, suck as different suspension components, different front windsheilds, different anttenna locations, but no of witch make for much difference performance
Yes, but all of those differences (except for the narrow body) are found on a 944 of atleast on year between 83 and 88.
Tranny is mounted just like 83-85 944
5th gear is the same as in 88 944
Final drive ratio is the same for all cars all 944 8v cars and 924S
Suspenions is the same as 83-85 944 in front and 85.5 to 86 in the rear. Springs, T-bars and sway bars also come from the 944 parts bin. (except maybe 924S M030, not sure)
Front windshied is the same as 83-85 as is the antenna. Athought a I had manual retracting antena on my 87 924S vs power on the 84 944's. My 83 has an aftermarket.

The 924S has shorter 5th gear than the 83-87 944 in US trim.

The shorter 5th gear with the narrow body means higher top speed since the cars are drag vs redline limited. If they were redline limited then the tall 5th in the 944 would have a higher top speed.

When I get home tonight, I'll post the specs from my 1988 944 series sales brochure. it has the 924S, 944, 944S, and 951.

One of the funniest things I read in the brochure was something like, "we have designed the oil passages to enable the car to have full lubrication, even in high-speed cornering situations."

Had they only known......

I just wondered because my cab actually feels more predictable to me. however this could be that I have driven the cab much longer period of time.

Fishey, get some bigger sways. I like the 968 M030 rear and 951 front. it REALLY improves the handling. give it a shot. my car is one of the most predictable cars out there...

I'm getting to the point where I can predict wether or not I'll make it home!

I drove the car with M030 sways on the 924S. I mean it felt good but it was deffinatly a very diffrent feeling car. (not in a bad way) I just think its something I have to get use to.

It IS a more spartan feel and ride. No "cushiness" - Oh, You'll get used to it.

Thre is no cushiness in my S2 but without driving both you cannot explain it. The way the S2 feels is diffrent then the 924S for sure. Its not better/worse (have not drove anuff to decide) but its deffinatly a diffrent feel.

The biggest diffrences are that I notice is not the dash. Its the small things like the steering wheel seems as though its slightly more vertical (maybe larger?) in the 924S. The emergancy brake lever is very diffrent and so is the gear ****. The clutch is lighter and the brakes are very diffrent feeling.

yeah, it took some getting used to from the 89 944 to the 87 924s, but once i got used to it, that thing really goes! I do like the newer seats though.

I love the feeling of the 924S on the track...

Right now I'm driving the 951 because the 924S is sick....sore alternator. The main difference I've noticed between the two, the wider wheels on front of the 951 make it tramline like no other, and the wheel is slightly more difficult to turn. Also, the wider rear wheels makes it more difficult to judge curbs (oops). In the 3 years of driving the 924S, I did one curb check, and that was a year and a half ago. In the 4 months of the 951S, I've done a curb check... so, my judgement gets a little out of whack when I drive the 951...

I only curb checked one time in the 944 and that was because I had this horrible sneeze and it like almost made me passout in the arby's parking lot. I swear I bounced out of my seat and when I got back to it I just clipped one of those short curbs (2-3" ones) I think it maybe hit the rim alittle but I got new rims since then so its all good
