Going from a 924S to a '87 944, i can say the steering felt somewhat more direct on the 924S. Thats not to say its sloppy on the 944 (which its far from), im just saying the steering seemed to have felt a little more sensative. I do however favor the seats on the 944 a little more, they seemed much firmer compared to the 924S seats (maybe they were just worn).

As for the interiors, i used to favor the older style much more due to its no nonsense feel and its 80's sport car look. But i have really grown a liking to the late model interior, seems to be much more functional.

 

Can you switch the tach and MPH gauge in the 924S? so the tach is in the middle?

 

Yes. I have the tach in the middle on mine.

 

How difficult is it to do?

 

It should take a total of about 5 minutes to do it.

Pop off the steering wheel, unscrew and pull out the gauge cluster, unplug the wires on the back of the two gauges you want to switch, pull out the gauges and switch them, plug the wires back in, put the cluster back in, pop the wheel on. It shoudl seriously take 5-10 minutes.

 

You might need to tape a dremel to a piece of sheet metal behind the right gauge cluster. I tried to switch the gauges on a whim and found that the speedd cable does not clear this piece of a metal. I figure it would take a total of one minute with a dremel to cut a small portion of it out.
