Default Brake Fluid is leaking and SMoking!

Hello all,

I AM ROOKIE PLEASE HELP!!

A month ago I notice my brake fluid from my 86' 944t started to disapeer, I need to refill it every couple of days its leaking bad. It smokes a lot on traffic lights it, the smoke seems to be coming out underneath the Brake Fluid Reservoir.

This weekend I checked all my brake lines and they are not leaking, I poped off the fluid reservoir and it seems to be OK. I jacked up the car and I cant seem to find the leak. I can see the fluid all over the right control arm and all over that area.

What else can I check?

Someone told me something about the Master cylinder possibly leaking<>?

Thanks for any tips you guys can give!

You really should fix it before you drive it again. Sounds to me like you should look under the reservoir first. Don't forget the clutch hydraulics use the same reservoir. If you have a pressure bleeder that would help find the leak faster.

you're loosing brake fluid but yet you have enough brake pressure to stop the car? if you had a serious leak i would think your lines would get mushy. but i agree with peckster - i wouldn't drive the car anymore until you get that fixed.

could be a leaky clutch master or slave cylinder

The rubber seals (between the reservoir and master cylinder) wear out over time. It could be leaking there. Your reservoir shouldn't be able to move side to side very much.

Clutch slave
just happened to me, brake fluid sprays on the exhaust and causes the smoke. pull off the clutch inspection plug, I bet you'll get a face full of brake fluid.

Thanks for Advice I think I have a better idea of how to get started on it......

It seems that every feels that it could be the Master and Slave Cylinder.

I dont know anything about them, what does the clutch have to do with braking system?

I know its brake fluid leaking but how does that affect the Clutch, am I missing something.

Can someone please give me a quick crash course on this subject?

If it was the master, it wouldn't be smoking.
Is your driver side carpeting, under the clutch pedal, wet with brake fluid?
Check for holes..

They both share the same reservoir.

Yeah, if you look at the brake fluid resevoir, you'll see a hose goin from the side of it to the clutch master on the firewall. from there a hose goes down to the slave on the bell housing.

Hmm.. well its definately smoking.

There is NO fluid under the clutch pedal.

Does that eliminate the clutch master and slave cylinders>?

I didn't have the leak under the pedal either. I'm tellin ya buddy, it's the clutch slave.

Just remove the starter, undo the hose, undo the bolts, throw out the old slave, Put the hose on before you mount the slave to the bell housing. it'll be MUCH easier...

Yes you should, unless you want to do it within a couple months.

and get the hose that runs between the two. Fix all of the potential issues, and bleed the hell out of it when you're done.
