Default 944 to appear in a new video game ('89 951 officialy confirmed!)

I've seen a few car lists for the up-coming Xbox racing sim "forza," and included in that list is the Porsche 944 Turbo. There's plenty of other Porsches too, along with cars from 60 other manufacturers. No screen shots yet (of the 944), unfortunately. Game is due out in March IIRC, and there's demo disks floating around if anyone wants to check it out.

Found these pics though:

Awesome! I've been up late tonight playing Project Gotham 2 for Xbox. I mostly drive the Porsches (they seem to be the best in most of the car categories in the game!). I'm especially in love with the old 911 Carerra RS 2.7L. But i've really been missing a 944 or 968 in one of these games...

^ Link to "official" car list. A Rothman's 962 is supposedly in it!

Now, here's what I don't understand... Porsche wouldn't give licensing to Playstation for Gran Turismo, but they appear all over Xbox games... WTF?! Not like I'm complaining, but it's just odd to me.

I don't know whether to hate Porsche (GASP) or hate Sony (yes). I was a HUGE Gran Turismo fan, and I always wished it had Porsches in it... I just thought that Porsche wouldn't license anyone buy EA (since EA made a game just for them), but now that I see they give it to Xbox, I'm thinking two things:

1. That's lame
2. It's because GT is a ricers game in the end, and Porsche doens't want to be included in that. This new game Forza looks like it's real serious with Porsches, probably Ferrari's and other high-end marques too, so it appeals to the "right kind of audience. I just wish there was a game as popular, advanced, and developed as GT but with all the great European models of all eras, to be a compliment / competitor to GT. GT could appease the ricers, Forza, for example, could appease all the people into European cars (and American muscle cars would be welcome too, IMO, but looks like GT got that covered now...). It could be like the relationship of Star Trek and Star Wars. Both huge, and appeal to slightly different audiences, while still in the same genre (I happen to be a fan of both though :P)

That is the EA game made a long time ago. It's fun and all, but the physics/graphics engines are primitive compared to modern day games.

This new Forza game looks friggin sweet. Does this mean I have to bite the bullet, join the masses, and but an X-box?

Old, but I drive the 944's better now that I have my own one.... I hadn't played it in 3 or 4 years, and at the time wasn't thinking about buying one. While cleaing up my stuff I came accros the game and loaded it again.. Wow... I had a better feel for the 944's... amazing...

Anyway.... there is also PS2 Platinum Gran Tourismo Tokyo 2002, (I think), it has RUF GT3.

I doubt there will be a PC version. It's a Microsoft developed game, so they're probably going to want to keep it exclusive to their console.

Forza is shaping up to be everything GT isn't. Decent AI, online play, collision/ damage modelling and now Porsches and Ferraris. The modding in the game is supposed to be pretty interesting. They'll allow you to swap components between cars, such as engines, brakes, suspesnions, etc., as long as it makes sense. A lot of people throw higher-powered Acura engines in Civics; you'll be able to do that in the game. Maybe you'll be able to put some nice GT3 brakes on the 944, or even swap in an American V8.

I have no idea why GT has never obtained the Porsche and Ferrari licenses. For a while, EA did hold exclusive rights to them, but Project Gotham Racing came out in 2001 and it had both in it.

Each car in Forza Motorsport is modelled to accurately simulate real-life performance and will include a feature car enthusiasts have craved since the inception of video game driving simulators...damage.

When gamers scrape the wall at more than 100 mph, the resulting damage will accurately affect both the look and performance of their car – just like in real life. With adjustable settings that will allow gamers to tweak damage controls, turn anti-lock brakes on or off and choose between manual and automatic transmissions, Forza Motorsport provides a thrilling driving experience for the beginner driver who prefers some assistance as well as for driving experts, who will be rewarded for their skill with a higher career earnings scale.

From import tuners to muscle cars to LeMans prototypes, Forza Motorsport challenges racers to accumulate earnings to tune their rides with upgrades like engine swaps, bolt-on superchargers and suspension kits. Gamers can also "trick-out" their creations with Forza Motorsport's innovative car customization editor that allows car artists to apply sleek, new paint schemes and upgradeable parts including body kits, rims, spoilers, decals, side skirts, fender flares, hood scoops and decals from more than 150 aftermarket partners.

Forza Motorsport is also fully equipped to allow gamers the ability to showcase their garage work with the best the online world has to offer via Xbox Live. Simultaneous competition with up to eight racers, buying, selling and trading cars, an innovative on and offline "career mode," and more than 1,700 leaderboards give Forza Motorsport the most complete online driving experience ever offered.
