Default Smooth shifting

Hey there, put in a short shifter about 8 months ago, which gave a short shift but not VERY smooth. I put some silicon (I know the speeling is off), on the joins right under the boot, all I can say is WOW!! It made shifting VERY much smoother!! I would say ANYONE, with or without the short shifter to spray some on the ball joint at the bottom and also the middle part where it connects. It won't hurt.

It might, but it certainly wouldnt be any worse than not having lube on the joint.

Is it safe to assume my mechanic lubed it when he installed it? Or should I have him lube it when he installs my new clutch?

I would do it if I were you, it is simple. You have to get the boot up, not out, be sure to use a screw driver or something to slide down the side. Put the boot up easy then it should pop. Then there is the rubber boot under that which taking off is easy but getting on can be a pain to make sure it is all the way on. After that, you should see the two joints, at the bottom and the middle. Spray some on them and then shift some, spray some more. After I started to drive my car some, I COULDN'T believe the difference! It was like a BMW tranmission, nice and smooth.

I did that, helped improve shifting but not so much.

You could get the early 924 bushings that go where the shift leverl mounts into the rod. Apparently only the 924's came with bushings while other models didn't (?)

I ordered some though should be here soon.........

use moly lube on shift bushings/joints. also, having the right gear fluid will help. many porsche owners recomend swepco.
