New stereo in the 944..and it looks like it belongs
I've been searching for a nice CD reciever for a while.
My requirements were:
1. An honest to god **** for the volume (I despise those tiny buttons).
2. No flashy whiz bang displays (this is a Porsche, not a Honda)
3. Good name brand, low price.
4. It has to look like it could have been factory stock.
5. Blue lighting to match my LED gauge lighting
I finally found what I was looking for with the Clarion DB345.
The wiring in the car was a mess. It originally came with a factory EQ and some sort of Blau deck but somewhere along the line it got a decent Pioneer unit (which is now in the Maxima).
The harness was cut to pieces and spliced with butt connectors and electrical tape.
I ended up taking the console out and re-doing the harness. I soldered all connections ,covered all splices with heat shrink tubing, and zip tied the whole thing.
The end result was worth it. The deck sounds great and looks like it was made for the car.
I'll post a pic or two when the camera batteries are charged up.

Nice, but it's blue with white, Pete! No amber...need to see a photo to verify your "looks like it belongs" claim
Never mind that...how does it sound??

I understand the desire for a REAL volume ****, Pete. I used to have a really nice Sony with a large wheel-ish volume **** that rocked. Sony fudged that model up a few years later by giving it the bling treatment (GUADY red and silver). I ended up putting a nice Kenwood in my Acura last month. Toned down looks, blue tint lighting, and although it has volume buttons, they're nice and big.

Believe it or not, I find the buttons, placed well, are actually easier to use while driving than a ****. Every time I use a radio with a ****, one slight road bump and BOOM, my hand moves, turning the **** too high or low. Buttons can be jabbed at, and if you hit a bump, you dont push the button.

You gonna be around tomorrow? It's supposed to be 50ish degrees and sunny, will take the car out and stop by to check it out. I cleaned up the car today and got rid of a bunch of crap.......
