Angry Rebuilt PS rack leaks

Hey Guys,
I just rebuilt my PS rack with one of the kits from rennbay and it is leaking from the body of the rack and pinion (right where the steering shaft connects to the rack) I am just ensuring that this isn't completely normal before I drop the rack out to find my mistake. Anyone have any suggestions of things to check or what I probably did wrong? I put in a seal everywhere I took one out so I thought I had it done right...

The rack leaked while the car was not running and it leaked out the entire amount of PS fluid while it sat for a week.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Send Travis from Rennbay an e-mail if he doesn't reply to this thread. I've seen him walk other people through issues with their rebuilds, and he seems to really take care of his customers. Good luck!

Are you sure its not leaking from the hose connections right below that part? Did you install the copper washers on each side of the banjo bolt connection from the high pressure lines to the rack?

If it is indeed leaking from the spline where it comes out of the top of the aluminum housing that seal is in wrong or its in backwards. Email me and we will get you out a replacement seal for that side. Its better to just replace the seal and not try to take it out and reinstall it.

Travis - an unrelated question. Your website shows the banjo bolts and washers. I think my rack is leaking at the hose connections where the 4 allen head bolts attach to the rack. do you sell replacement allen head bolts?

Travis,
I bought all new copper washers so I am nearly certain it is not leaking from any of the lines. Also, it was leaking while the system was not pressurized so I do not think it is one of them. As best as I can ascertain the leak is coming from the big body on the rack (I do not know the term). I am dropping the rack back out tonight to check it and I will shoot you an email then if I need any seals. Thanks for the offer.

The hex head banjo bolts replace the allen head ones used from the factory. Much easier to remove/install. They are for the two high pressure lines going to the rack. The other banjo bolts have rubber seals between them and if they are leaking its likely that the seals are the only things that need replaced.

So I took my rack apart tonight and I believe the seal that is leaking is the blue/green wiper seal that sits on the bottom of the gear casting. (step 8 of the rennbay instructions) Should this seal sit flush with the bottom of the casting? Also which side of the seal should face the pressure side? The flat side or the other side? Thanks for any help guys, I do hope it is this seal and an easy fix.

Flat side down. Lip side always goes towards the pressure on wiper seals. If thats the problem email me and I will get a new one out to you.

That's why I'm going that way when I redo my steering rack sometime later this month or in Feb. Disconnected power steering is getting a little old here...
