MegaSquirt + 951?
#16
I've seen one Chevy 944 running MegaSquirt; not that there aren't stock 944/951's out there running MS, simply haven't seen any write-ups. Knock control via timing retard will be semi-custom though I have a few ideas. I'm a pessimist at heart but I think this will go pretty smooth.

My father and I are still in the configuration stages of our Mega Squirt controlled Supercharged Big Bore 911. Squirt seems to be a powerful fuel controller.. but keep in mind that it is only for fuel control and not a stand alone system for all engine parameters. We decided to use it in conjunction with our programmable Electromotive dual plug ignition.
Putting the kit together will take you a solid weekend, wiring and configuring will take months. Because there are few examples of Squirt injected 944's, parameters to get you in the ballpark are not out there. (unlike other systems that can have you going in a couple hours) This means you’ll start with no preloaded maps and have to build them cell by cell.
Personally, for a 944/51 application, I'd go with some of the other products on this list that have some development and real world usage, or wait until Squirt and Jolt are packaged together for a DIY standalone.

I am REALLY interested in the megasquirt, I have several applications I would like to try it out on.
Dark, please let us know about your experience and take plenty of pictures. I didn't know the v2.2 was out, I'm going to go surf their site here in a minute. The v2.2 does ignition too I *think*.

This I gotta see.

That what you wanted? I'll get assembled pictures in a few weeks once I have the parts in hand.
Why they call it a 'stimulator' I really don't know when 'simulator' is truly a better word. The stimulator plugs into the MegaSquirt box and fully mimicks all of the various inputs (coolant temp, incoming air temp, etc etc.) It's primary purpose is to ensure you built the MegaSquirt box correctly by faking all manner of inputs.
I've assembled one (MegaSquirt box and stimulator) previously for a local friend so I have played with one in person.

You can read on their site for YEARS and never get through all of the material, there's simply that much documentation. Keep the Tylenol bottle handy.

I've used the MS system on a turbo'd AE86 with 4GVE engine. One of the issues I found was the lack of resolution in the maps. In a 9,000rpm engine, there's a lot of spread between the data-cells. On our cars, it shouldn't be a problem. John, get a old '82-85 944NA DME and stuff the MS board inside it. Those boxes were aluminium and can hold a larger circuit board.

To combine two threads (link to other thread):
Do the 82-85 DME's share the same connector as the 951? Can I kill two birds with one stone?

Small update.
There's a wrinkle with MegaSquirt on a 944/951, and that's the fact our crank angle sensors don't provide a usable pattern for ignition control. Sounds like I'll need to install a new timing wheel, possibly a 60-1 from Clewett or fabricate my own from parts stolen off early 90's Fords.

Yup, like I said, triggering would be an issue. If the read that correctly Sam Lin knows of a few running it and said it was not a prolem, maybe he knows something we dont...
PS Davinder just sorted the triggering in the AEM and has the car running, I think using the 60-1, you would be wise to get in contact with him.

Can someone explain why? I.e. what are you trying to accomplish? Not being an ***, just not understanding the desire here.
