Default WTB: Dead 82-85 944 DME (was WTB: DME and KLR connectors.)

[edit] I'm looking to buy a dead 82-85 944 DME. Most of the following posts led me to this. [/edit]

I'm looking for a dead DME & KLR. More specifically I need the female connector from a 951 DME and the female connector from a 951 KLR, or any other female ECU connector which matches the pinout pattern. I'm going to toss the rest of the ECU in the trash so I don't care about the condition of the case or if it even works.

DME is two row, 35 pin.
KLR is two row, 25 pin.

If I can't find 944/951 units reasonably priced, does anyone have suggestions on other (cheaper) Porsche/Audi/VW/other Motronic units would have matching connectors? For instance, what about 924/931 DME units?

Thanks.

I dunno if you want to go this route, but 0.100 inch spade crimp connectors fit perfectly, nice and tight and secure. The males fit in the female side of the connectors, and females in the male side.

My plan for my SMT6/Zeitronix/datalogging setup is to make sort little jumpers using those connectors, with the new stuff spliced into that, so I keep my stock wiring pristine. Then for added security, what I might do is take two thin peices of wood, drill 35 little holes in them, the right size for the wires. The wires will go though the holes, and the crimp connectors wont. Then just zip tie the wood to the connectors on each side. They will hold the crimp connectors tight to the original connectors.

I came up with this plan to avoid having to buy the original connectors, resolder everything, etc. With this I just crimp it all together.

I already have all the connectors and the SMT6, just waiting on a Zeitronix setup.

Brian, that's an interesting idea and you have the same line of thought as me: installing a standalone ECU using the existing stock wiring harness but without altering/damaging anything. I want to retain the ability to go back to stock with virtually plug&play capability.

924/931 don't have DME's they are mechanically injected. Doesn't really narrow your search down much but you might look at some of the older VW's and BMW's.

Yeah, I hate attacking my car like that, when utlimatly its something that will change. The nice thing about this is I have EASY access to everything in the car, since im toying with the idea of a DIY datalogging system. And then when I go standalone, all I have to do is get more wire and new crimps, and im back to square one.

Ive hacked a harness on an MR2 Turbo, and it is a HUGE pain in the ***, as the harnesses arent made to be hacked. The 951 harness would be easier than the MR2 one, since ours have a few feet loose to place with, but still a major pain. I hate having to lie down in the foot wells, with the crimps I can sit in my room watching a DVD, crimp it all together, go out and plug it all in. Done.

Dark Lightning I can assure you that any 924NA/ 924 turbo has no DME only the S's would have one. The 924's excluding the S's are completely mechanically injected. The item shown in that auction looks like it might be an ignition box for some of the later cars but it's not what you want or need for your project.

You can buy those connectors new from AMP, but they costs about $80 each through a roundabout way...

To combine two threads (link to other thread), lemme quote Danno:

Do the 82-85 DME's share the same connector as the 951? Can I kill two birds with one stone?

HOLY ****!

I was looking through some catalogs looking for them, hoping theyd be available cheap. Couldnt find them, then decided its the classic "If I have to ask, they are too expensive" and came up with my $20-30 plan lol.

Yes, it's the same 35-pin connector. Then you can just hard-wire the 4-5 lines you need from the KLR harness like the TPS-pwr, ground, signal and you can also control the stock CV-cycling valve with your own electronic boost-controller as well.

Anymore info on this, like part numbers or a source to get them from?

Thanks,
