Default A loud pop when downshifting...ugh!

What is going on? When I downshift into second...i have only heard it in second, could be in other gears...lets say im going like 35 and i downshift into 2nd. I just slip the clutch out and the revs match and then I hear this pop or clunk...its like a mix of both. I cant tell, sometimes it doesnt make a sound, other times it does...i dont get it, what could it be. My clutch is almost gone but i hear it from the back of the car...and my trans has 110k on it....turbo trans...so it should be fine, or so i would think. Mmmmmm....

If you're already in gear when it happens, I would lean away from syncro's.

Now, it may turn out to be related to the clutch. Anyhoo, I would like to know a little more.
Is the pop once the revs match?

It makes the sounds as the revs are matching but after it is in gear. I was also told by someone here that it might be the CVs. Thanks, Derek

You *do* double-clutch downshifts, right?

You mean, clutch in, pull out of gear, clutch out while gear in neutral, clutch back in, in gear, clutch out...is that what you mean? if so, then no, I just take it out of gear and rev up the engine and put it in the lower gear.

that's how I do it as well...I'm not coordinated enough to do a double clutch downshift.

why are you downshifting into 2nd at 35 mph? That would take some life off the tranny at that high of a downshift, other than that I'd say it was synchros too.

I was just saying that, I did it once when i was driving my car through some turns having fun, heard the sound and then i tried doing it some more to define the sound. I rarely do that. It sees that the higher the speed on the downshift the louder the sound. Also, 35 for second isnt that bad. Second goes to 60 mph.

35 for second isnt bad at all, prolly 4000rpm max. I'll check it later... My 2nd gets to a little over 55mph, but thats not good to do at all! If you love your car you will not do this to her!

a LOUD clunking would be CVs, but it would be when you're on the gas (may be intermittent), but the sound wouldn't just be on downshifting, it'd just be when the driveline is under stress in general.
I haven't double-clutched when downshifting, and I'd never had a problem like that as long as you are rev-matching.

yeah into second at 35 is about a daily shift point for me....
I will also say that it sounds like the CV's to me. I have one that is going out I beleive and this is the same thing. Go ahead and replace those, and out of curiosity also change the tanny fluid. THat would help the synchros a little bit as well.

The whole point of double clutching is to compensate for no synchros....so, you would not do this with this tranny....rookie.
