WARNING ! Hoods not transparent !
Well, it could have been worse, but here's the short story. Forgot to close the hood all the way down on the turbo, took a drive. Once I hit about 45mph, the hood flew up on me. I immediately got onto the brakes and pulled off the road. My Official Initial Damage Assesment appears to be cracked windshield (best source/price for these, with built-in antenna) and broken hood shock. Hopefully nothing past that, my hood doesn't appear to be bent (although it had some imperfections already).
I'm definitely mad at myself for that one. Rookie mistake. MORAL: DON'T FORGET TO LATCH HOOD ALL THE WAY DOWN !!

That is a shame. I did that once when I was young I had a 68 ChevyII I was fixing up and every time I turned around I would do something like that. But the hood going up was about the scariest thing I ever did.

Glad you're ok. It could have been a lot worse.
Try Safelite for the glass. I got mine replaced for around $400 incl. tax. Check with your insurance first to see if you have coverage for it.

on the windshield, you would be better off ($$$) by getting a non-antenna windshield and retrofitting a 968 antenna. One of the suppliers sells the antennas for ~$40.

Since you have airbags on the turbo, you have to get the windshield with the antenna. The airbag windsheild is thicker and stronger too I was told. The glass shops won't install the earlier and cheaper windshield due to liability.

I just got a safelite one. It was $240 installed with antenna. Just make sure you get the correct windshield. There are two types... air bag and non-airbag. Mine was the "non-airbag" and they tried to put in the one for the airbag car. The difference is on the airbag one it has a built in rubber strip at the bottom. They put the windshield in and realized the windshield wipers wouldn't fit nor would the hood open. They had to pull it out and cut off the rubber strip then it fit fine.
Anyway, its not the first time something like this has happened. Just ask ROCK... Except he just unbolted the hood latch and thought that wind pressure would hold it down....
No Rock... you will never live that one down.

Hey, it's better than leaving the hood up on your mom's pickup truck when you are pulling it out of the parking space onto the road where it is flat to check the oil.. and slamming it into her friends car that was parked on the side of the road because you couldnt see...
But i don't know who would do that anyway, just a made up situation of course.

Hmmmm my latch pops open on occasion whenever i hit a good bump. Maybe this post is a sign to finally fix that problem. I always pull over and pop it back in whenever it happens.
