Default Roof Rack for 83 944

I know I know, your thinking WTF doe's this guy want to put roof rack's on a porsche...

Well I'm sick of placing my wake boards in the back !. I'm sick of all the sand & **** that get's into the black carpet...

On another note has anyone maybe got other ideas like a tub liner for the boot area etc etc...

It's either find a solution or sell the car...

IIRC, I've found them listed at both www.thule.com and www.yakima.com. But I don't know how much that'll help you down your way.

If that's how you appreciate the car, sell it to a deserving owner.

The factory rack works great - if your not in a hurry search around to try and find one.

I like my Thule roof rack...the hardest part to come by is the fit kit, it's number 34. the rest is from a Nissan Maxima, so it's really easy.

having a roof rack on a Porsche doesn't mean sh*t IMHO, because the factory even released em, and it just goes to show how versatile these cars really are. I take mine snowboarding all the time, in the mountains where there's lots of magnesium chloride on the roads. If having a roof rack on a Porsche is Herecy, then I'm a heretic. plain and simple.

Try a plastic "Boot tray" usually found in home improvement stores, they are about 2-3" deep and come in a variety of sizes. Just remove and hose out when you are done. Works great for an impromptu hatch tool box as well.

Hey mate dont preach to me about appreciation of the car... I've spent thousands apon thousands to keep the car original and up to scratch... I'm simply asking for a solution to my problem... The car is very versatile, it carries all my kiteboarding gear, way more than my wife's Landrover freelander... The problem is I'm very **** with her, she get's a wash every time i come back from the beach and a vacume... This takes time... I think the tub liner would work the best...

Doing a nice fiberglass tub - like the stereo guys do for speaker boxes - would work and not damage anything (if done correctly)

thats a bloody good idea... I think I may look into getting one made...

Hey i have one more question...

I had my 944 for the past 8 or 9 years... However this is the first time I've bothered to get involved in a forum about them...

Can someone tell me whats a 951... Is it a factory RHD 944 ?

What motor code #@$% does the 1983 944 have in it ?

Does the S2 front skirt fit easly on the 83 models ?

Do the more modern rims fit on the 83's ?

951 is the factory designation for the 944 turbo.

Modern rims will not fit easily without spacers

The S2 front will be a PITA to install on an 83 NA

Dunno about the engine codes

Like BB said, 951=944 Turbo

PITA means Pain in the ***.... sorry to say it, but it'll be very difficult. you'll need to change out the front bumper, headlights, and nose panel, and I'm not sure, but maybe even the front fenders just to get it to work. good luck!

Roof racks are awesome on the 944. I use mine to carry my kayaks on occasion. Because I dont normally leave the racks on, I got some that are very easy and quick to put on and remove, way easier than the old yakima racks I had. The racks are made by Saris, only complaint I have so far is that only their rack attachments work, due to the aerofoil shape of the bar.
