Ken, I hope after a little break-in you like the clutch.

Konstantin, a few clutch options here www.clutchnet.com

Ken,

Merry Christmas to all.

Just wanted to let you and all the new Spec Stage II users (with the Fidanza LW FW) know that after 5000+ miles, my clutch finally feels like a stock clutch during 1st gear starts. Actually, it started feeling better a while ago, but it now no longer requires raising the RPMs up high before releasing the clutch pedal. Downshifts still require rev-matching, but that's fun.

So just keep on driving it

I realized that I need to improve my skills with a clutch. It has made a master out of me now in a short period of time. My car is now out of commission now due to a head gasket. See the "I've about had it" post!

any news on the "new" clutch?
Fidanza flywheel or
SPEC from Lindsey (is it the same)
or KEP PP
or the 930 disc or?
to many options but what is good for street/track use and 700 NM Torque?

I am up for a clutch soon in the turbo and would like to hear about this as well. I was leaning towards a KEP PP and a Cup Disk, orrrr maybe a SPEC Hybrid Stg III.

Holy moldy thread Batman...

Charlie, the KEP PP and Cup Disc is a good combination. Very popular on the turbo board, and I've been very happy with that setup myself.

KEP PP with Fidenza flywheel is too light for street use.
Stick with lighten stock flywheel. Why, cause the revs
drops too quickly.

Maybe for some. It isn't too light for me. I have had ZERO problems with it. I quite like it, actually.

What is the power/torque holding capacity of the KEP Stg 2 + Fidanza LWFW + either the Cup or 930 disc?

Only numbers I have seen are from the KEP website, good for 600 ft lbs with the stock disc, does not say if stage 2 ?

KEP PORSCHE 930, 944 Turbo & G50 HD PRESSURE PLATES

KEP Porsche 930, 944 and '87-89 G50 racing pressure plates are available with aluminum cover for lighter weight, ductile face for durability and higher clamp load for an increased torque capacity of 600 ft. lbs. using a stock disc. These are not modified factory parts. They are CNC machined then accurately assembled and balanced.

Torque Capacity with stock disc

Clutch Stock KEP Increase
KEP 930 - '75-77
374 600 60%
KEP 930 - '78-86
423 600 42%
KEP G50 - '87-89
460 600 30%
KEP 944 turbo
378 600 59%

ON MY 91 s2 I USED A SLIGHTY LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL , ABOUT 2 LBS , A UPRATED PRESSURE PLATE, AN KEVLAR SURFACED DISC FROM MARCUS BLASZAK . THE KEY WAS I ASKED MARCUS FOR A RUBBER CENTERED DISC THIS COMBINATION WAS FULLY BALANCED , AND WORKS VERY WELL . YEAH THE RUBBER CENTERED CLUCH DISC WONT LAST FOREVER ! BUT IT WILL WORK FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS AS THE ORGINAL ONE DID, ITS VERY SMOOTH ,AND HAS NO RATTLING ,WITH AN UPRATED GRIP . JOHN

My PO did the clutch about 10k before I bought the car. It's a Spec Stage 2 with a Fidanza flywheel. It was a total pain in the *** for me the first few months I had the car...I was stalling at red lights and all kinds of other embarrasing moments. NO ONE gets my car moving for the first time without stalling it. I even tell people it's going to happen...and they still stall it. I don't have any problems with it anymore - I can't say I love it...I would like it to be a little more forgiving so I can concentrate a tad less on starts and downshifts when I'm driving...but it's liveable once you get some mileage on it. I can't say mine really chatters at all anymore...at least when I drive it well. All that said, have no idea why my PO went this route - he didn't and had no plans to track the car and didn't have any mods planned that would get the car even close to 300HP...so no idea...

If it ever needs to be done again it sounds like I'll go to a Centerforce and a stock flywheel.

WHY ARE YOU YELLING?? LoL

I guess it's got everything to do with it being a 944. I had a Spec Stage II with a 7lb Fidanza in my KA-Turbo S13 (240SX) making around 350rwhp and had no problems with it chattering, being to rev happy to start at low speed, difficulty rev-matching into lower gears at speed etc. I also had a Spec Stage I in my '98 Integra Type R with an ACT 9lb flywheel and had no issues there, almost felt like it was stock. Had one in my '88 Toyota MR2 with a blacktop 20V ITB swap. That was also an ACT 9lb and a Spec Stage I. My 951 has a Sachs Cup Clutch and it holds up to the current power (whatever that is) great with absolutely no slip and great smooth engagement. A lighter flywheel would have been nice IMO but it's not a track car so I don't really mind it.
