Talking Front 944 Speakers - final solution !

Hi,

I have read many post on this subject - cutting, adding custom griles, rising original griles, addind spacers....all of this because of the depth limit - 43mm (1 5/8").

Now it is just history. Solution - ALPINE SXE-4625S. It is a direct replacement of original Blaupunkts - and it's depth - 37 mm (1 3/8") !

20W RMS, 150W peak. Good sound - standard for ALPINE.
Price in Poland - 38 USD / pair.

Consider them before You make this cut.

Regards,
TK

I did a search, and I can't find any U.S. sites that have them, only european sites. I think maybe this is a Euro-only product. Too bad too, as it sounds like a nice replacement solution..

Another super slim 6x4 speaker is the Blaupunkt ODx462E that I'm using. Installation depth is 34.5mm...

I have some 4x6 Memphis Audio's. They are very nice and fit perfectly. They are designed for use with a sub, since they have built in bass blockers.

I'm replacing ALL the speakers in my car since the break-in and door window replacement fiasco.

MB Quarts and dual 6"subs for everybody! 1" tweeters as well. I'll have some Polk 4x6's to dump soon.

I run some vegas component plates sub and tweet no grilles they fit look nice without the grilles. Run the same ones in the rear. My V-drive alpine headunit pushes them quite well

Be warn of Blaupunkt ODx462E - the tweeter is about 10mm above the front flange - no chance for original griles to install without spacers. I heve explored all of European options. The considerable stock oriented option is Pioneer 4621, depth ok, but there is a problem with back flange (cage).

And bass ? Well... what would You expect from 4x6 ? Super bass - no chace. 4x6 was standard for factory speakers during '70 and '80 in Europe. VW still produce cars with this size speakers. Good to listen traffic jam messages, not for music ))

Now considering the rear pair. JBL P6452 - what is Your opinion ?

You won't get decent bass from a 4x6 in a car, no way, no how. You'd need one heck of a good enclosure to even get some in a home setup. However, a 6 or 8 inch bazooka tube (for those who don't want to do any modification or custom building) would fill out the lower end nicely. Good quality - nothing more, but our cars are made to be driven, primarily...

As for the rears - To me, JBL = Junk But Loud. Your results may vary. Try Polk db's - they worked great for me, and remember there's no size limit in the rear. I got a deal on the Polks, so they may be too expensive for you, but the construction is great quality.

I have these in the front of my car.

It's tight, but they do fit with the stock grille.
No bass though, so I'm looking for the 10-speaker door panels.

Hey if you guys are looking for bass look on ebay for a Kenwood WOOX, it looks deceivingly small but the reviews ive seen are awesome. I plan on getting one and it seems a better solution for our cars than an Infinity Basslink etc...

OK,

So there is a list of "upper shelf" speakers I can buy here in Poland:

JBL P6452
JBL GTO6426e
Polk db460
Blaupunkt ODx462e
Infinity Reference 6402cf

What should I buy ?
Don't care much about price.
