Default window tinting?

I was thinking about getting my windows tinted, anyone know about how much this costs? I don't know that much about it but from what I've seen a few people have gone with 20% in the back and around 30% for the rest. Any suggestions?

couple hundred bucks. some folks you take it to will tell you the back window cant be done. some wont touch it. you just have to find a good person whos very experienced. it usually takes 2-3 pieces to do it even an experienced tinter. the chick at the local ziebart near me happens to be top notch and has done all my cars.

I drove a 951 with tinted windows...don't know the percentage, but I couldn't see sh*t out of the hatch. it just reflected the carpet...

I don't like it, and will never tint my Porsches because of it. but that's MHO...

I have 50% tinted all round, and about 10cm down the front windscreen. No problems with view, and it costed me ~$40 including the film and labour here.

I have done 35% up front and 28% in the back. I am very happy with the way it came out. The rear hatch took 3 pieces but there is absolutley no way to tell it was split. During daytime you can see the driver from outside the car but during night time its pretty hard to see.

I would recommend it. The looks cleans up the car quite a bit, especially on dark colors..

I have a tinted rear hatch and I will trade it for a non tinted one. I can't use mine in CR and is too dark it reflects my cream carpet. But a saver when hot out though!

I rode in a 944na with tints, I'd never do it to mine when I get one. I find you can't look into a corner on unlit streets at night. I like to see where I'm going

I've tinted several of my previous cars, and I will NOT tint my 951. For the record most US tint shops (unlike the Middle East ) charge $150-300 for a full tint job.

Good:
  • With professionally tinted windows, the overall look of any car is improved. This is exactly why auto manufacturers tint cars in advertisements.
  • In broad daylight, driver visibility is pretty good. It's like wearing sunglasses.

Bad:
  • At dusk or at night under city lights, it's not too difficult to see car headlights but unlit objects (house signs, street signs, etc) are more of a challenge.
  • Tinted windows means you're carrying a neon "CAR FOR PARTS" sign around with you to help attract thieves. Tint frequently means there's stereo gear to be stolen.

Ugly:
  • When you're backing up at night, there is no frickin' way in hell you can see what you're about to hit. I don't care how bright your reverse lights are, it doesn't matter, you're gonna hit that trash can or parked car.
  • Should you want to remove the tint (it fades, it starts to peel, it gets scratched/cut, you start to hate it) it is a severe pain especially for the rear window. You'll have to scrape the glass with razorblades while not damaging the delicate rear defroster lines.
If you still want to do it, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY take the time to check out the shop's work on other cars. If they can't do a decent job on a Honda 4-door, your coupe won't be any better.

Personal taste applies, but my '92 had been tinted all the way around and I really don't care for it. I've left it on the hatch and rear glass as I don't know how big a hassle it would be to remove it.

Now, the door windows and strip across the top of the windshield... That's another story. Driving along, nice as you please one morning and a cop pulls me over. No tinting allowed from driver seat forward hear in Illinois, ticket, court, no fun. I have heard that some cops here will hand the driver a razor or scraper and have them remove the tinting on the spot.

My vote; pass on the tinting and spend the money on something else for your 944. Hmmm... new shocks? alignment? plug wires? Lot's of goodies.

In my opinion window tint makes the car look way better. I posted pics when i had my windows tinted and not. The back wheel in the pic looks a little funny because i didn't have my spacers on . The windows are tinted 15% all around. Also it isn't that hard to see out of my back windows.

As long as it does not bubble... looks fine.
