New 944 forum format
Well I just got done moving 11 threads over to the general 944 forum since they were not "tech" related.
I've really seen a drop in activity since the switch. I'm not sure if everyone is confused or what. I think the idea of splitting the forum has merit but it seems to have taken the "soul" out of the forum.
The idea was to appease the members who no longer posted due to what they said was too much OT stuff in this forum. I think the amount of it was less than it used to be and the forum had a nice rythym to it.
I think there may be a better way to set it up that would make everyone happy.
Here's my proposal:
General 944 forum -- The old main forum, relaxed atmosphere, occasional Porsche OT discussion, GTG's, etc.
With these sub-forums:
924/931 tech forum --for the early 924
924S/944 NA tech forum --(new) for the NA crowd
944Turbo/TurboS tech forum --(no changes)
944S/S2/968 tech forum -- for all the 16V models
Please post your thoughts and opinions.

Sorry, I posted one of those threads. I forgot the general forum was there.
Personally I would prefer one board for the 924/944/968/etc and that we just ruthlessly delete the OT posts. Splitting it further will complicate things overmuch.

I think that the general forum shouldn't be this tech specific.. Yes we have an OT board, but I think this board was more of a hangout for our 944 series community, because we seem to have our own sense of community, rather then if we were all grouped with 911 and 356 owners. I think this board should have a lot of understanding for ot threads, and also be able to post tech things. If you really want to only see tech, then you can go to the boards that are model specific. I thought that is waht they were there for anway

I don't like the new system at all. I only visted teh 944 board once since it happened.
Bring back the old and continue using the orginal model specfic tech forum

Definately can say that the forums seem quieter. How about switching the link from the left hand bar, so that the casual browsing person gets to the "924/931/etc. General discussion" forum first.
And for those who want to dig deeper they can go to the "924/931/etc. Technical discussion" forum.
I feel there's probably a benefit of not splitting the models too much, and not have separate turbo and N/A forums (which exist already anyway.) People will tend to post only in the forum for the car they have, so we would loose a lot of the cross model info.
Just my 2cents

Why would you split 951's from teh bunch, yet leave 944 S2's and 968's with 944's...
I think if not what we have now, just go back tow hat we had before. If you want a specific tech forum go to the specific boards. Ive never had problems getting a tech problem answered here so I dont think it was out of control.

Here's something I proposed a while back to John, but I think he was not in the mode of changing things around. I think the entire class structure of the boards may need a do-over. For one thing, the air-cooled/water-cooled split isn't as valid as it used to be. And, the 944 main forum is distantly separated from the sub-forums:
More or less, there it is. In some cases you might think there is more distinction between models than others, but this also takes into account historical usage. I think the less separation the better, but also think folks deserve a place to call their own. It should all be driven by need. I also think the shorter the category name the better. We don't need a label that calls out every model in the main 924/944/968 forum - we're all one big fat happy family, dangit (eg 924/924S/931/944/944S/944S2/951/951S/968)

I think it was fine before...although the sub-boards did seem a bit distant with less action. I personally dont mind reading a few off topic posts in the main 944 board. I know for my self at least, if ive ever posted something off topic in the main board, its because i want THOSE READERS to see it and im curious for their response, not the people that hang out in the off topic boards.

Id have to say no, dont change it like that. As soon as you start trying to subdivide a forum too much, it turns sour. I think like it is now is fine.
And we already have all those forums too...
And why is it a big deal that we keep the people who dont like OT posts happy? They arent forced to read it, and im sure they skim the titles anyway for a thread to post in.

Pete, the real important question is this: Since we have made the change are those member who were complaining about the non-tech stuff posting more to the tech site? If not then change it back to the way it was. At the end of the day, the goal was to bring those people back in and if they are not coming back the whole thing is kind of useless.
There is no way you are going to avoid the obvious problem of having two forums BOTH filled with garbage. Therefore, you have to ask yourself this,
1) If we go back to the old way and are very intolerant of OT stuff, does that hurt anything? Does it create an environment where people know and abide by the rules?
2) If we leave it the way it is do you spend 3 hours a day just moving crap around?
3) If we "reorganize" again for the sole purpose of making a few people happy does anything really change?
At the end of the day it doesnt make much difference to me, however, if this new way is more work and doesnt attract any of the people who wanted change (and I havent seen many new or old faces responding) why bother?
Up until 5 days ago you had a 924/944/951 Lounge and you had model specifc tech forums, what was wrong with that setup?
