Default What do you all think I can get for my '89 951?

Hello all!
My familly has just expanded by exactly 1 hungry little girl, so I'm debating letting go of my other love, my 89 951. I don't want it to go to some schlep who will abuse her or misuse her, so the people at my porsche club suggested I post a link here to see if anyone has a spot for a much loved car. It only has 96K miles on it and is stock. I have upgraged the wheels to the 17" 993 rims with SO2's, but I have the original 16" as well (with the rubber). The car has the M030 suspension package and has been repainted an original color ( a blend of 2 blues). I can send more pictures if anyone is interested. What do you all think I can reasonably get for the car? Everything works except for the clock in the dash, and I've replaced all the belts, seals and water pump.
Thanks in advance everyone.

Interior pics would be very helpful to give a true estimate. What condition is the paint in? Is it just dirty on the bottom or are there paint issues?

I will try to post some pics of the interior tomorrow. The interior is clean with normal wear on the driver's side lumbar support. The dash has some cracks, as per all 944's, but it doesn't rattle or anything, and in all the years I've had the car, they haven't gotten any worse. The paint is in excellent condition (I've only put about 20K miles on it since painting it, and never in the rain). What you see along the edge of the car and the wheel wells is just dirt.

The repaint will take some money off of it. The dash probably should not have cracks in it, its an 89 with pretty low miles. At least, it could have been prevented. I don't know. I might pay 8,000, but I'm really picky about stuff, the dash just ruins it for me... no offence

None taken. Don't worry. I bought the car with the cracks already there, so I only prevented them from getting worse, if anything. The original color was that "baby-powder blue" Porsche used to call Baltic Blue. But I found it more of a feminin color than anything else, so I changed it. I kept the engine bay the original color, just for memory's sake.

The 944 series is notorious for dash cracks. It is an annoyance that spans the entire line, including the 968. Thankfully, it can be inexpensively remedied, at least superficially, by a dash cover. The plastic, more original looking cover, goes for around $80.00, and a cloth cover goes for around $40.00. That's a lot better than paying $850.00 for a new dash.

Also, allow me to point out that the mileage in question is 96,000, not 9,600..... A 15 year old car with 96,000 miles has had more than a few chances to sit in the sun for a bit. While I agree that that 96,000 miles is relatively low for a 1989 (at only a bit over 6,000 per year), that is still quite a number of miles on the whole, and it is no surprise whatsoever to me that it has some dash cracks.

I see that you are looking for a Turbo; I encourage you to not exclude an otherwise fine example only because it has a few dash cracks. Again, it is quite common, and easily remedied. Best of luck in your search!

Exactly. I know someone with a beautiful sapphire blue 951 in excellent condition...sitting out in the sun with no cover or sun shade...rotting. All because of a rod bearing and carelessness on the owner's part.

Not really all that likely, you are dealing with a 7K dollar car not a 70K dollar one. If it is a quality respray it could actually ADD value. You are in Canada and the prices there are considerably higher. The only people that could give you a truly good estimate would be people like Rich Sandor, K27, Jaak Lepson, etc. Guys who have bought and sold cars in Canada. That market is entirely different

Shame it was resprayed, or I might be all over it. I love the baltic blue color, and will most likely repaint the Gen'l Lee (originally black) that color some time down the road. The only thing that would keep me from doing so would be to find an S in that color...

Regards,

I think you should ask in the low 20's. In the end it all comes down to how fast you need to sell. I'd love a 951 but i don't have that cash to burn and would need to sell my car first. Good luck though. BTW is the speedometer in miles or Kms.

$7,000? If that is all I could get for my 1989, I think I'll never part with her... NOT that I have ever considered doing so, in the first place. In fact, if someone offered me $7,000, I would probably laugh hysterically.

If it were not almost winter I would put an offer on it, especially since you're 2 hours away!

If it's still around in the spring I would definitely put an offer on that beautiful car
